The hidden costs of cheap laser hair removal

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We all love a bargain.

Nobody likes being ripped off.

There are some things in life where choosing to buy based just on the price is not a great idea – laser hair removal is one of those things.

Read the below article and find out exactly why…

  • It could stop you wasting money on so called ‘cheap’ laser hair removal treatment.
  • It could also save you from putting your health at risk.

Discovering low cost laser hair removal near you…what’s the catch ?

You may have been shopping around for cheap laser hair removal. You stumble upon a local clinic near you offering low cost laser hair removal at a price which seems to good to be true.

You’re tempted.

It seems affordable. and is the cheapest price around ………..for miles.

Plus, it is local company, near you, easy to get to, convenient and….

…..REALLY cheap!.

…..Before you do, you hear a voice in your head telling you to be careful so, like most people, you think about checking a couple of reviews to see what other people have said.

After reading the reviews, all seems ok so you decide to go ahead.

Fast forward 6 months….

…..will it have been a great decision?

……a real bargain?

…..and you are feeling on top of the world?

……or are you now tangled up with a legal case and looking for another clinic to end the six month nightmare you have just been through?.

Looking beyond the price of cheap laser hair removal

If you are looking for a dentist, surgeon, chiropractor or perhaps someone you loves needs urgent medical attention, you probably are not looking for the cheapest person or are prepared to haggle over the price and get a big discount?.

You would want to know about….

….the experience of the person, dentist or doctor

….their expertise or speciality

….and be impressed by the facilities

before you then consider the price before making a decision. And not make a choice based on the price.

On the other hand for certain purchases you would go for the cheapest.

Price comparison and hours of online research are not worth the effort if you are buying paper, elastic bands for your office – or kitchen towel for your home!.

laser hair removal

The essential questions you need to ask when you come across cheap laser hair removal prices in London.

In the beauty and aesthetics industry if you are promised:

  • an amazing experience
  • world class service
  • highly trained practitioners
  • the latest, advanced, state of the art technology
  • conveniently placed locations
  • convenient opening and closing times

…..this will come at a cost.

If you flip the question around and instead of asking

‘why are you so expensive?

ask

‘why are you so cheap?’

you will be surprised to find out what you discover.

Be warned though you may not like the answers.

Answers that could put your health at risk and make you end up spending more.

laser hair removal cheap

why is Laser hair removal so expensive ?

There are a number of reasons.

If you are looking for the most effective treatment on the market today then you would need to find a clinic using the latest technology.

The technology used makes an enormous difference.

In the laser hair removal industry the premium brands used by best clinics are either Candela or Cynosure.

These American companies have been at the forefront of medical technology for many years and are considered the Rolls Royce of Laser Hair.

They also have a Rolls Royce price tag to go with it!.

This is one reason that treatments may be cheaper elsewhere.  It may be because you will be treated by less powerful unbranded machines.

Laser hair machines can be purchased from the far east, over the internet, for a fraction of the cost the leading brands and, although they may look the same, the difference couldn’t be greater.

Not only will these machines be less powerful, which will make your treatment less effective, they may not be regulated or  FDA approved

  • To receive FDA approval a laser hair removal machine must :

‘demonstrate with sufficient, valid scientific evidence that there is a reasonable assurance that the devices are safe and effective for their intended uses’.

The FDA is responsible for protecting public health in the USA by regulating amongst other things medical devices.

If your machine is not FDA approved then you are taking a risk with unproven and untested technology.  Not something most people would want.

laser hair removal price comparison

Sessions Required Session Cost  Total  Difference

 ‘Expensive’ Clinic

8   100 800
 Cheaper Clinic 12 60

840

+£40

The comparison table above shows just how much more you could end up paying for laser hair removal by using inferior machines as more sessions will be needed for the same results

  • For example If you pay:

£100 per session for 8 sessions or £800 in total

….compared to having your treatment performed in a clinic with a less powerful unbranded machine

….where you may pay £60 per session but need 12 sessions

….So you end up paying £840

….and on top of that you have the inconvenience of travelling, arranging and going through an extra 4 sessions to get the same results.

laser hair removal

Experienced practitioner?

Of course you can always ask. You may not get the most reliable answer.  The type of the machine plus the experience of the practitioner will mainly determine how successful your laser hair removal will be.

A great machine but inexperienced practitioner will not lead to the best results and neither will an inferior machine with a greatly experienced practitioner. So the two go hand in hand for best results.

Beware if you find a clinic offering cheap laser hair removal with a cheaper machine that has been purchased to generate extra revenue for the clinic (this is mainly smaller independent clinics that may also do nails and hair).

As laser hair removal is not the main business, the practitioner may not be treating clients very often so they will lack the experience and possibly training.

This can make a big difference to result.

An experienced laser hair practitioner would have treated clients of all ages, ethnicities and genders so there is less risk of burning you.

They would know how to adjust and adapt your treatment for every session so you get the best results. An inexperienced, poorly trained practitioner won’t.

laser specialists?

So it is a worth bearing in mind if you decide to go ahead to check if laser hair is the main business or just a small part bought in to generate additional revenue for the clinic.

As well as the two main concerns above there are also other considerations such as

  • Do you know if their staff are receiving regular training ?
  • Is the clinic fully insured to perform the treatments?
  • Is it registered to any professional body?.

Small independent clinics have been known to shut down and reopen under a different name if a legal case is bought against them.

This will not happen with larger reputable clinics chains

.harley street clinic

You may have read horror stories in the press about how someone sued a clinic due to negligence, (usually because of the reasons above – poor machines, experience, technology and qualifications/training of staff ) and it is usually always smaller independent clinics who vanish overnight then reopen under different name.

Secret ways clinics make treatments cheaper they don’t want you to know

Other ways that a clinic may cut costs without you knowing is during the treatment.

Questions to ask and find out are:

  • Is a sterile dressing pack being used for each patient if your treatment requires them?.

  • Are they using medical quality antimicrobial cleanser or baby wipes purchased from the local wholesale discount warehouse?.

  • Are premium products that are scientifically proven to work being used or again non branded cheap wholesale products?.

  • Another important issue to consider is do you know if the clinic is up to date with the latest basic life support, anaphylaxis and complications training in case something does go wrong during treatment.

  • Epi-pens have a shelf life of around 6 months. Does the clinic you want to go to have one and if so is it up to date and not 2 years old?.

  • Are their staff attending regular training?.

All this can easily be overlooked when you are just comparing by price.

By cutting corners some clinics prices can be reduced but the quality of service you receive is lowered and the risk increased.

If you do decide to go ahead and book a consultation bring up some of the issues raised above so you know exactly what you are receiving.

If the business is unsure or just simply don’t know then you would be wise make your excuses, leave and to find an alternative clinic.

Looking beyond the price and going for best value

We hope you now realise pricing does not tell the whole story. Doing a straight price comparison between clinics can be very misleading.

We also hope this information will help you make:

  • a better decision,
  • preparing and arming you with knowledge
  • asking the right questions whichever clinic you go to.

Feel free to use the information as a checklist for any consultation that you book into.

After all it is your hard earned money that you will be handing over.

If you do see a higher price when you are shopping around it could simply mean the company has invested in the above.

This means you are more likely to get the best, most effective and safest treatment possible – and are not just out to rip you off.

laser hair removal

Cheap and safe and quality?

Laser hair removal can be performed on almost 99% of the body treating sensitive and private areas, so for your own peace of mind it is worth taking the time to find the right clinic that you can trust that will look after you before, during and after your treatment.

If a company has invested in making your customer experience truly exceptional then this investment comes at a cost.

The cost is an investment in:

  • your health,
  • your safety
  •  your well being

making sure you are cared for with the best laser hair removal results in the fastest time.

High pressure sales tactics

We also haven’t touched on the clinics that advertise a really low price to get you to book a consultation then use high pressure selling tactics to get you purchase more.

This practice is still happening today and a quick search on Google will reveal companies offering cheap laser hair removal from £9.

This is a topic in itself and we will leave it for another day – but like the advice given above already if its too good to be true then it probably is.

Profits before care and clients?

Some businesses will always look at profits first and the customer second.

Try and avoid these companies.

You really want to find a clinic that puts the customer first and profits second.

Next time you have a quote from a clinic and the price is to good to be true, look at your checklist and start asking questions.

We hope this will help you along your journey and has warned you against the cost of cheap laser hair removal.

10 Facts You Need To Know Before Booking Laser Hair Removal

If you are thinking about laser hair removal for the first time and are worried because of all the things you’ve heard about it, read through the ten facts below which will help answer your most common laser hair removal questions and queries.

  1. Is it painful?

Laser hair removal works by sending light through the pigment in the hair, which creates a sharp but slightly small painful sensation that is caused when the hair follicle and hair bulb are damaged.

The laser can cause discomfort on areas with thinner skin such as the nose, chin, and temples. If you had to compare the pain – it would be less painful then giving birth!, less painful then having a tattoo! – it can be compared to being flicked with an elastic band – so there is really nothing to worry about!.

  1. Patience

It is worth knowing that the results of laser hair removal do take a few weeks to become apparent. It’s not an overnight solution but the results are long lasting and definitely worth it. After your first treatment, you will be looking at two to three weeks to see a notable difference, whilst it will take around 8-12 sessions to ensure you see the very best results.

This is because the laser can only destroy hair in the growth phase or anagen phase.  So in your first session only hairs in the anagen phase would have been destroyed.  To destroy all the hairs you will need to go back so you can catch the remaining hairs in the growth phase. Hair grows in 3 stages which are anagen, catagen, and telogen and this is the reason why multiple sessions are needed.

  1. The process is quick with little downtime

The average appointment takes less than 30 minutes which can include the preamble about what is ahead as well as personal preparation such as the removal of makeup. (Unless you are having a full body session; that could take just over an hour.)  If you are having a single area like half arm or upper lip then sessions can last anywhere from 15 -45 minutes.

  1. 24 hours after the treatment

The laser emissions used during the treatment stay within your skin for a full 24 hours afterward and therefore, in order to avoid bacteria multiplying and creating acne, you will want to avoid anything that would increase your core body temperature, such as going to the gym, saunas or hot baths. So take full advantage, skip the gym or yoga for the day, and put your feet up!.

  1. Avoid sunlight

Whilst having the treatment, you practitioner will advise you about the best to protect your sensitive skin. However, you may want to avoid exposure to the sun and sunbathing in general. Moreover, if you have recently been on holiday or developed a tan, you will need to wait for this to fade before beginning treatment.

  1. Some treatments may cause hair to develop elsewhere

Unfortunately one of the side effects of laser hair removal is other types of hair growing longer. However, this shouldn’t be too much of a concern as the practitioner will be able to advise you if your hair isn’t suitable for the treatment or if there could be possible side effects.

  1. You may need to alter your beauty regime

Certain beauty products have chemicals that could cause complications during the treatment process and therefore scrubs, retinol creams and glycolic acid should be avoided for two days before and after treatment.  If you are unsure bring your cream in or take a picture on your phone so you can show it to the practitioner.

Similarly, you should refrain from any chemical peels for around two weeks before and after the laser process and wait 1-2 weeks after until you apply a fake tan.  This will ensure that you get the best results.

  1. Don’t wax or dye your hair

Also during the process, you may feel more comfortable being hairless and therefore we would recommend shaving rather than plucking, waxing or bleaching any hair. Plucking and waxing can damage the skin and cause complications with the potential success of laser hair removal treatment.

  1. Does laser hair removal treatment works on all skin tones?

This is true, the treatment only requires the hair to be dark enough to draw the laser and there are NDYAG lasers that are safer for those with darker skin. For best results ensure your clinic are using the best machines on the market.

You do not want to take any risks when it comes to you health. The leading machines on the market are either Candela or Cynosure.  They are the Rolls Royce of laser hair removal world and cost about the same as a Rolls Royce!. If you see cheaper prices and are tempted, then just be sure to ask the clinic what machines they use. Laser machines can be bought online or from the far east for a few thousand pounds. You really don’t want to be treated by them as they are not as powerful and will take longer so you end up paying more and, most importantly, can potentially put you at risk.

  1. Will I need to go back for top ups?

For the majority (around 90%) of people, they see a permanent drop in the growth of hair on their targeted area however fluctuations in an individual’s hormones can sometimes cause further hair growth which might require additional visits.

You should discuss this with your practitioner during your initial meeting.  Most people are happy when they discover the laser and have thrown away the razor!. There really is no looking back. Many are happy with the results, the time and money saved, and not having to wax or shave any more!.

We hope we have cleared up some of your questions or queries surrounding laser hair removal.  Lots of us rely on the internet, social media or friends and family to find out about things these days and sometimes that can lead to more uncertainty.

If you still have questions about laser hair removal the best thing to do would be to book into a free consultation.  You will be able to discuss your concerns and goals with an experienced practitioner who would have treated many people with a similar background, skin tone, hair type and history to yours. They can also perform a patch test on your skin to check your suitability.

Many people get tattoos without knowing it may affect their laser hair removal. We see clients every week with a new tattoo and have to tell them we are not able perform laser hair removal over the area where the fresh tattoo is. (IPL cannot be performed either). This blog will hope to clear up the confusion about laser hair removal and your tattoos.

Tattoos everywhere

Today there is almost no part of the body that cant and hasn’t been tattooed! Places that used to be off limits like face, neck and hands are no longer off limits. This presents challenges for people wanting to be hair free and also for laser clinics.

Not long ago, tattoos were mainly on upper arms so hair removal wasn’t much of an issue. Also laser hair removal or tattoos were not as common as they are now.

Get Laser hair removal before tattoos

If you do not have a tattoo yet, but are thinking about getting one, and it is going to be in an area where you are concerned about hair growth, the best thing to do would be to be prepared, have laser hair removal before you have your tattoo – if you want to keep the area smooth and hair free after the tattoo.

Some areas are naturally hair free so there is no need to worry. If you are planning your next tattoo on your forearms or legs, which are hairier, then plan ahead and get laser hair removal before you get the tattoo done.

Can you get a tattoo after laser hair removal?

You will have to wait a number of weeks after the laser hair removal before you are able to get your tattoo done. This gives the skin a chance to heal as laser hair removal does destroys hair follicles and you need to give your skin a chance to recover. So once you have a tattoo lets discuss what your options are.

laser and tattoos

Location, location, location

One of the key questions if you are thinking about laser hair removal and have tattoos is where is the tattoo located? If you have a tattoo that is on your ribs and wish to have laser hair removal you are unlikely to face any issues.

Large tattoos in areas where hair growth is unavoidable such as on your arms, if you have a sleeve, or back or on your legs or in more discreet places!

Can laser hair removal be used over a tattoo ?

Now for the bad news laser hair removal cannot be done over tattoos. Only the surrounding areas around the tattoo itself. The larger the tattoo, the greater the problem removing hair by laser.

There have been stories in the press of laser hair removal being done over a tattoo, usually by an unregulated clinic or untrained, inexperienced employee, which have resulted in serious third degree burns requiring hospital attention.

How to cover up a tattoo for laser hair removal

If you still want to do laser hair removal with a tattoo, then experienced practitioners will be able to create a cover for the tattoo and then target the surrounding area, usually keeping around 2-3cm between the tattoo and the lasered skin.

As long as the laser does not go near the tattoo you will be fine. You can ask the practitioner to mark around the tattoo with their white pen as an extra precaution. Medical tape or plasters are not necessary. Although be warned using this treatment may lighten the colour of the tattoo and could still damage the tattooed skin. The most important thing you can do is find an experienced practitioner you can trust.

What is the process for removing hair and how does it affect my tattoo ?

Laser hair removal treatment works by targeting the melanin or pigment in the skin using wavelengths of light.

This light energy attacks the hair follicle and prevents it from growing back. Lasers cannot tell the difference between dark pigment in a hair follicle or in a tattoo. A dark colour is a dark colour to a laser. Laser light is automatically drawn to the dark colour to destroy it. Unfortunately laser hair technology that can tell the difference between the two doesn’t yet exist, but may one day.

The effect of laser hair removal on tattoos.

If laser hair removal was performed  over a tattoo the laser would have trouble accurately finding the pigment in the hair as there would be pigment from the tattoo surrounding, confusing the laser.

So you have the double effect of poor laser hair removal and exposing tattooed skin to the laser which could cause severe scarring or long term issues to the skin. So bad all round.

Also different lasers are used for laser tattoo removal and hair removal. What about IPL?

Can you use IPL on tattoos?

IPL are not classified as lasers. They are essentially full-spectrum flashlamps. Like a flash on a camera. They are good for treating certain skin conditions like sunspots and rosacea. Not as effective for laser for hair removal. We would not recommend IPL for laser hair removal and you encounter the same issues with your tattoos that you have with IPL.

shaving for women

So what are my other options?

If you are eager to remove the hair on a tattoo, don’t fret as there is a process that can be used as a substitute.  Electrolysis treatments avoid the risk of scarring and damage to the tattoo itself.

Professional treatment is advised and the results are highly effective and can ease your concerns about excessive hair. You will not get the same results as having laser hair removal but it is the next best thing.

Of course, if you are genuinely concerned about the hair on your body then you could also decide what is more important: a tattoo or hair-free skin? If it is the latter, you could look at having the tattoo removed then waiting for a period of time, before undertaking the laser hair removal. At Premier Laser we do offer tattoo removal and laser hair removal.

Why not book a  free consultation so we can have a look at your tattoo and hair growth and discuss any treatment plans along with performing a patch test to check your suitability.

Alternatively epilation could be the way forward although not as effective as laser hair removal it is still an option for you to be hair free. Then there are always the traditionally ways of shaving or waxing. Yes, they are a hassle and need to be constantly done but they are the options so you can enjoy hair free skin.

Is Laser Hair Removal Painful?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Is laser hair removal painful?

Does it hurt?

These are two of the most often asked questions in our London clinics.

So what is the answer?, is there such a thing as pain free laser hair removal ?, well it depends…( areas treated, laser used, your pain thresholds!)

is laser hair removal painful?

As painful as an elastic band but not pain free

Having laser hair removal has been described as having an elastic band flicked against your skin. Something most people can tolerate. Different areas of the body will be more painful then others. Underarms are more painful then legs. Pain levels also depend on the thickness of the skin in the area being treated.

Laser can also be more painful during periods when women’s skin may be more sensitive.

Does the area treated affects pain levels?

The laser can cause slightly more discomfort on areas with thinner skin such as the upper lip and temples.  To put it into perspective, in terms of pain laser hair removal is a lot less painful then waxing and less painful then tattooing or the dentists so there is really nothing to worry about.

Area Pain 1-10
(10 most – 1 least)
Score Tips
Face Thin skin areas – lips – Thicker skin areas – chin / side burns 8

2

Upper lip is the most painful as the skin is thinner. Small price to pay for losing the moustache!
Underarm The most painful area 9 Results are amazing. No more shaving!. Hang in there!
Bikini Line 8 Not as painful as waxing!
Arms Thicker skin on forearms 3 Arms tolerate pain well.
Legs  Upper & lower legs 6 Occaisional tweak of pain otherwise not too painful.
Stomach Thicker skin 4 Has been described as tickling more then painful
Back  Large area / Many hairs 8 Numbing cream* can reduce the pain levels to a 2-3

*Topical numbing cream when applied can reduce the pain levels for any area down to the 1/10 to 3/10. Although this will add time to your visit to your clinic as the numbing cream can take up to 30 minutes to be effective.

Your pain threshold

Everyone is different and can tolerate pain differently. Women are known to tolerate pain better then men.

With laser hair removal some people do not notice a thing while others will have their fists tightly clenched with every zap of the laser.

Can anything be done to reduce the pain of the laser to stop it hurting?

Modern lasers have cooling devices attached, blowing ice cool air on the skin.

Other laser brands like Soprano ice use a cooling gel over the skin.

This can get messy though and most prefer the cooling air. Also numbing cream can be applied 30 minutes before your session by your practitioner to reduce the pain.

does laser hurt more then shaving?

Does technology make a difference to the pain levels?

With the latest  Candela medical grade equipment we use here at Premier Laser your treatments will be more effective and less painful. Medical grade equipment is more powerful and they have a built in cooling system which cools the skin as the laser works away.

Older technology = more pain

Other older machines use a messy cooling gel on your skin which then has to be washed off and is not as effective as the air cooled machines.

As mentioned clinic machines are also a lot more powerful then machines that are sold on the high street. So less sessions are necessary and you will get quicker, longer lasting results then other clinics which are not using the latest medical grade technology.

Is there pain-less Laser hair removal ?

In a word no. Try and find a clinic using top of the range laser technology as this can make a difference. If you are thinking about laser hair removal for the first time ask the clinic what machines they use.  The top of the range machines costing over £100,000 are made by a US firm called Candela.

This cost can be an barrier for many smaller or independent clinics so they opt for cheaper versions.  Cheaper versions can be bought on the internet for £3,000 ! are not reliable, potentially dangerous and can damage your skin if you are not careful with painful burns and blisters.

At Premier Laser our clinics use the latest Candela technology.

Gentlemax Pro

Will experienced practitioners lead to less painful laser?

It takes skilled technicians with many hours of training to use lasers effectively. Clinics using inferior machines doing laser hair as an add-on staff may have received minimal training and lack experience or not busy enough to build up their skills. So there is a risk going to a smaller non specialist clinic.

It is why some clinics which have lower prices that seem too good to be true, now you know why !. It is a risk many won’t take once they realise they are being lasered with cheaper machines and inexperienced, untrained staff.

laser hair removal pain

Does laser hair removal get less painful with every treatment?

It is worth knowing that the results of laser hair removal do take a few weeks to become apparent. After your first treatment, you will be looking at two to three weeks to see a notable difference, whilst it will take around 8-12 sessions to ensure you see the very best results. The pain will not reduce greatly but you may be better able to tolerate it so will feel less painful.

  • no more shaving and painful waxing!

Most of our customers would never go back to shaving or waxing once they have discovered the benefits of Laser Hair Removal.  After your course has completed most people then return every now and again for a top-up session.

pain of laser hair removal

After the treatment & how to deal with any pain

The laser emissions used during the treatment stay within your skin for a full 24 hours.

This is perfectly normal and safe. If you feel uncomfortable you can place ice packs against your skin for the redness and soreness.

In order to avoid bacteria multiplying you will need to avoid anything that would increase your core body temperature, such as going to the gym, saunas or hot baths or bikram yoga.!

So you have the perfect excuse to take it easy for a day or two and in most cases it is well deserved downtime, just go easy on the ice cream!

Avoiding sunlight

Whilst having the treatment, the dermatologist will advise about how best to protect your sensitive skin.

However, you may want to avoid exposure to the sun and sunbathing in general which is not too difficult when living in the UK but can be a bit more trickier during the summer months.

Just cover up the areas being treated, so a hat or long sleeves or trousers or long skirt depending on which areas have been treated.

If you have recently been on holiday or developed a tan, you will need to wait for this to fade before beginning treatment we usually recommend around four weeks, you are able to come in for a patch test though if you are thinking about laser hair removal for the first time.

bikini laser

You may need to alter your beauty regime plus avoid fake tan & sunbeds

Certain beauty products have chemicals that could cause painful complications during the treatment process and therefore scrubs, retinol creams and glycolic acid should be avoided for two days before and after treatment. Also all traces of fake tan should be removed and sunbeds avoided up to 2 weeks before.

So a simple change in your routine in preparation for your laser hair removal sessions will guarantee you get the best results possible for your treatments.

Also you should refrain from any chemical peels for around two weeks before and after the laser process and wait 1-2 weeks after until you apply a fake tan.

The same advice goes for tattoos if you are thinking about having any speak to your consultant if you have any questions as they will be able to advise you.

Don’t wax or dye your hair

During the process, you may feel more comfortable being hairless so we would recommend shaving rather than plucking, waxing or bleaching any hair. Plucking and waxing can damage the skin and cause complications with the potential success of laser hair removal treatment.

laser hair removal candela technology with cooling system to reduce pain

Does laser hair removal treatment work on darker skin and is it more painful ?

Treatments only requires the hair to be dark enough to draw the laser. So if your hair is very fair, white then laser hair removal may not be for you. Also is you have red hair then laser hair removal will not work for you.

There is a different type of laser used for people with darker skin. It is called an Nd:YAG laser and is as effective and safe for people with darker skin. The pain reported by clients using Nd:YAG laser has been reported as being like a pinprick.

Patch test lets you experience how painful laser is first hand

Before you purchase a laser hair removal package you will need to have a consultation. During the consultation your practitioner will do a patch test on your skin. This is to test the laser on your skin to see how it reacts. So you get to feel the laser sensation and if it is something you are able to tolerate.

London Laser Clinics & Reviews – Who To Trust ?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Can You Trust Online Reviews For London’s Laser & Skin Clinics?

With Laser and Skin clinics on every high street and in shopping centres across London it is hard to find a clinic to choose. One way most of us decide is by reading reviews.

  • How often have you been influenced to buy a product because your friends told you how great it was?.
  • Or you went to a new restaurant, booked a hotel or bought a car because you saw amazing online reviews?

Whether we like to admit it or not, we’ve all been influenced by reviews and ratings. With the internet at our fingertips we are only seconds away from all the information you ever need about a product, service or company.

Importance of reviews in the aesthetics industry

In the beauty and aesthetic industry reviews, referrals and ratings go a long way, with companies actively encouraging customers to leave them.

Studies show that around 1% of people leave reviews.  Or 10 people per 1000. People who have a poor experience with a company are more likely to post reviews then people who had a great one.

This can lead to an unbalanced or unfair view about a company or product. Negative reviews are on average much longer and detailed then positive ones.

negative reviews

One of the UK’s largest aesthetic clinics, with clinics nationwide, has absolutely terrible reviews.  Clinic after clinic average 2.3, 2.6 or 2.7 stars out of 5 on Google.  If potential customer were to judge them by their reviews they would not have any customers!.

But they have treated over 2 million customers, making £30 million a year, this would not be possible if the company was as poor as the reviews claim and we know from experience that they are a very good company who really care about their customers!.

If you have the time, look at the reviews for the Great Wall of China – It has an overall rating of 4.2.   4.2 out of 5!.

This is one of the wonders of the world and people travel thousands of mile to see it every year, yet not everyone’s happy or willing to leave it a 5 star review!.

It just goes to show bad reviews don’t paint a full picture.

So if bad reviews don’t give you the full picture, do positive reviews?.

These days good reviews can be:

  1. genuine
  2. fake
  3. paid for

Having too many 5-star reviews may appear too good to be true.

Review sites also allow companies to delete negative reviews or only show reviews 4 stars or above.

After all, companies pay review sites so demand they are shown in a positive light. So again caution is recommended.

What are you supposed to do?.

When it comes to reviews in the beauty industry we believe customers should treat them as part of a bigger picture – not the whole picture. They are useful used as part of ongoing research about a clinic or procedure you are interested in.

Luckily at Premier Laser our Google reviews number over 1000 at a 4.7 average.

This is not to say we don’t have negative reviews.

We do.

It is part of the business we are in.

We take all our reviews, good and bad, seriously, it is always an opportunity to learn and improve our service.

5 steps to help you choose the best london laser clinic

If you are thinking about having laser hair removal in London or any other aesthetic treatment for the first time and are deciding on a clinic, we recommend you take the following five steps to help you make the right decision.

1.Online Reviews

Despite what has been said about online reviews they are a good starting point.  Instead of looking at the best and worse, one or five star reviews, you may learn more about a company by looking at average reviews or 3 star reviews. This is because they will not be at the extreme ends and be more balanced.

Also when checking reviews see if the company replies and how it treats poor reviews as you can learn a lot from that.

2.Referrals and Recommendations – Ask your friends or family

They may have personal experience or know people that have used the company and can recommend or tell you to avoid it at all costs.  Like reviews recommendations will help you form a picture and help your decision-making process.

It is worth remembering that in the health and beauty industry results vary from person to person. This could be for a wide range of reasons including:

  • age
  • skin tones
  • hormonal levels
  • medical history

…all of which are unique to the person having the treatment.

So if someone had great results it may not be the same for you and likewise if someones results were poor,  that does not mean you will have poor results.

checking reviews online

3.Social media

Social Media is a great place to get opinions and feedback. If you have a friends, followers or fans online they may have used the company and you can get more information there. Search for the company on social media and check out its presence there.

Be careful a lot of companies offer free treatments to influencers who then promote the company so again use that as part of your overall research.

4.Free Consultation

Most companies offer a free consultation. This really is the best, low risk way to find out more about the company and the treatments on offer.  You will find out if you feel comfortable in their surroundings and if you would be happy to go ahead with any treatments.

When you arrive look around the clinic and see if it is clean and well organised. See if the staff are friendly and professional and you are welcomed and made to feel at ease.

5. Ask questions

Make full use of your consultation by asking a lot questions about the treatments you are interested. Don’t be afraid to ask about the experience of the practitioner and their qualifications. Ask about the results that can be expected, types of machines used (if any) and the aftercare routine that may be needed to be followed.

It is also a good idea to enquire if any top up treatments are required and what their procedures are if you are not happy with the results.

It is a lot to remember so write your questions down before you go so you don’t forget anything.

In Summary

We hope this helps you if you are thinking about visiting a laser clinic in London and are not sure which one to choose. With quite a few to choose from the more information you have the better decision you will make. The better the results you will get.

If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch with us we will be more then happy to answer you.

Exactly how much does laser hair removal cost for men and women?

We all know hair growth is one of the most frustrating aspects of adult life. It’s a constant chore to shave or wax, and we often find ourselves stressing out about how we look and cursing hair for growing back so quickly. It’s for this reason, laser hair removal has become so popular in the last ten years and more and more people are turning to this new technology as a way to manage hair growth and see some long term results.

Once you’ve decided to go through with the treatment the question quickly becomes,

‘where should I go?’

and

‘who offers the best value?’.

Here at Premier Laser we pride ourselves on our ability to not only provide the best service, with the best results but also offer it to you at a generous and affordable price. With our price match guarantee you won’t find a lower priced laser hair removal clinic in London using the same technology

We also offer fantastic finance from only £280 with a 10% deposit.

Below we are going to run through a few procedures, and why choosing the team here, over the competition is the right choice. For the purpose of the price comparison, all these prices are for single sessions.

(Read our blog on why cheap laser hair removal could end up with you paying more)

laser hair removal prices

Premier Laser and Northwood

Both London Premier Laser and Northwood offer laser hair removal however Premier Laser offers far more affordable costs than its competitor. There are five services that have been compared here:

‘Abdomen & Chest’, ‘Back & Shoulders’, ‘Back, Shoulders, Full Arms’, ‘Back, Shoulders & Upper Arms’ and ‘Full Back, Chest, Abdomen, Shoulders & Half Arms’.

Single Session Premier Laser Northwood
Abdomen & Chest £165 £220.00
Back & Shoulders £244 £420.00
Back, Shoulders & Upper Arms £278 £330.00
Back, Shoulders, Full Arms £329 £530.00
Full Back, Chest, Abdomen, Shoulders & Half Arm £450 £700.00

Northwood doesn’t offer combined packages for a number of these treatments, unlike Premier Laser and as a result, the price of the hair removal is often higher.

This is particularly noticeable for the comprehensive ‘Full Back, Chest, Abdomen, Shoulders & Half Arms’ which is a full £250 cheaper at London Premier Laser. Furthermore, more straight forward sessions such as Abdomen & Chest is over 30% more expensive at Northwood.

Premier Laser and sk:n

Another competitor in the field of laser hair removal in London is sk:n, who has a number of clinics and like Premier Lasier provide an excellent service and yet, just like Northwood also falls short of our excellent value.

Single Session Premier Laser sk:n
Abdomen & Chest £165 £170
Back & Shoulders £244 £320
Back, Shoulders & Upper Arms £278 £515

As you can see Premier Laser comes out on top across the examples here, with a slightly cheaper cost for Abdomen & Chest, and a much cheaper cost for Back, Shoulders & Upper Arms.

Again, Premier Laser offer this as an easy package with great value and is 50% less expensive than sk:n for tremendous quality.

Premier Laser and Pulselight

For women’s hair removal, you can also look at Pulse Light who offer a similar service to London Premier Laser, however, in terms of quality and price, Premier Laser once again come out on top.

Single Session Premier Laser Pulselight
Abdomen & Chest £165 £190
Back, Shoulders, Full Arms £329 £570
Full Body Top to Toe inc. Face £625 £730

The biggest comparison here is that Pulselight also offers a full body service just like Premier Laser. This treatment is always likely to be the most expensive and this is reflected in the price, but unsurprising the value for money is still found at Premier Laser who charge £95 less than their rival.

Review

The price comparison is fairly comprehensive and the facts don’t lie; London Premier Laser is more affordable than any of its rivals as well as having a greater degree of expertise and top of the range technology.

If you are interested in seeing a specialist or booking any of the many services for women and men that are offered, then look no further than Premier Laser for care and cost.

Prices reflective of May 2019.

With the big day approaching most brides have a huge amount to worry about, from the weather to the food and everything in between. However, how the dress looks, and in particular, how you feel in it is also a key concern in the year leading up to the wedding.

One of the elements that women fret about is body hair, and whether to shave, wax or in some cases undertake laser hair removal treatment prior to the wedding. In this post, we will provide you with a few pointers about the process ahead of your wedding day.

The Basics

First things first, how does laser hair removal work? Simply, you will have a number of sessions with an expertly trained practitioner who uses technology to emit wavelengths (beams of light) to target the hair follicles and prevent hair from growing.

The energy kills the hair follicles on your skin, and from here the hair begins to fall out (this can occur over a few days). Unlike waxing or shaving, the process is built for long term results and consequently, it has become incredibly popular for soon to be brides who don’t want to be waxing or shaving on their honeymoon immediately after the wedding!

The Process

If you are looking to have laser hair removal treatment prior to your wedding you will need between 10 – 12 months to get the process completed. The entire run consists of typically eight treatments which require six weeks between each one and whilst this may seem like a big commitment, the sessions themselves are fairly short and therefore won’t be time-consuming.

Furthermore, it is a small price to pay for having one less thing to worry about on your wedding day and honeymoon.

Moreover, you will want to have the sessions completed a few weeks before your wedding to avoid any complications such as itching or discomfort due to the fact hair is still falling out a few days after the treatment. Please be aware there can be a little pain associated with the treatment, however for any woman who has waxed you need not worry too much as comparatively, it is much easier.

It is also worth knowing what areas to focus on when getting the treatment. Thankfully the lasers used are so advanced that no area is off limits, so you can’t go wrong by focusing on the underarms, lower legs and bikini lines. However, it is worth noting, that the treatment is not suitable if you are either pregnant or have any tattoos (in the treatment area).

There are certain steps you will need to take prior to the appointment however and to ensure you get the best results and these include:

  • Avoid getting a sun tan before the treatment by using a high factor sunscreen
  • Don’t remove hair in other ways such as shaving, waxing or electrolysis during your treatment
  • If you are on blood thinning medication you’ll need to consult with your doctor and they can advise you on whether to suspend usage before the procedure

As ever, we’re always very happy to answer any questions about laser hair removal and you can always pop into any of our clinics for a free, no-obligation patch test and consultation to make sure you’re suitable for laser hair removal.
