Why winter is the best time to start your laser hair removal treatment

Are you fed up with the wax pain every month? Or are you complaining about shaving because it after 2 days your hair starts to grow and leave you with a prickly feeling on your skin? Then laser hair removal is the right thing for you!
Laser hair removal is an amazing long term hair reduction method that helps you to get rid of your unwanted hair. Thank s to the latest technology cooling system, it is not painful like waxing. And because it actually gets rid of the hair follicles, it leaves your skin silky smooth; unlike shaving.
And we are sure that you will be happy to hear that winter is the best time to start your laser hair removal journey. Why? Here are the main reasons why you should start your laser hair removal treatments now.

There is less sun exposure

Laser hair removal 101. The laser cannot be performed on tanned skin.
You will love the sun once your laser treatment finishes and you will be able to go to the beach without any preparation. But until then, you need to stay away from the sun!
Before starting your laser hair removal treatments, you need to make sure that the area is not been exposed to sun and there is no tanning. Also after your laser treatment, you need to wait 2-4 weeks before you can suntan. Otherwise, your skin can get damaged and some pigmentation can occur. Also, we recommend having your laser sessions every 4-6 weeks. If you get suntan after your laser session, you won’t be able to get your skin ready before your next laser appointment.
You can probably see why starting your laser sessions in winter is beneficial. Your skin has already been away from the sun and ready for permanent hair reduction. And you can make sure you won’t get any tan between your sessions as especially London in the winter doesn’t really match with beach requirements.

No excessive sweating during the winter

Laser by its nature heats the hair follicles and gets rid of them. We do use the latest technology cooling to make sure you are as comfortable as possible during your treatment. But the laser beams still heat the hair follicle. This may cause the skin around the hair follicles to get more heat-sensitive for 24-48 hours.
We recommend you to prevent excessive sweating and getting exposed to heat right after your laser session. However, during the summer time, it is not as easy to do so.
Wintertime, on the other hand, is perfect for you to stay cool after your laser hair removal treatment with our experts. As long as you don’t take very hot showers or use the sauna or steam room, nature’s cooling will help you to be more comfortable after your session.

You don’t need to shave or wax during winter as you will be more covered up

Laser hair removal works on hair follicles. If it’s applied on your actual hair, it will burn the hair and can cause pigmentation.
To prevent this, we kindly ask you to shave the treatment area 24 hours before your laser treatment. But until then, you need to let your hair be free!
It takes 4-6 weeks for a hair follicle to complete its cycles and come to the correct stage for the laser to be effective on. If you wax during this time, you will change the whole cycle period and on your next laser session, the laser may not be able to as effective as usual.
Winter times come with their layers. The long sleeves, tights under skirts, and not being the bikini weather outside helps to cover your excess hair as well. This way you can let your hair be on the perfect stage during your sessions.

You will be beach ready by the summer

We recommend 6-8 hair removal session for the optimum results. And each session would need to be 4-6 weeks apart.
If you were to start your laser hair removal treatments now, you can easily be ready to enjoy stress-free summer!
Easier to arrange your treatment times. You have more time. Don’t need to pause your treatment for holidays

Easier to arrange your diary

We all love the summer holiday. The dark winter days are over and can spend more time with the kids too. And we do deserve those lovely sunshine holidays. Doesn’t matter if it means that we will need to rearrange many set plans.
During the winter times, you can arrange your appointments easier. As you don’t need to pause your treatment for holidays, you can continue your them on the set schedule. Which will bring you better results in the long run too.

Most frequently asked questions about laser hair removal

If you are considering or getting ready to start your laser hair removal treatments, we’ve prepared you a handy guide with our most frequently asked questions about laser hair removal.

How do I get ready for my laser hair removal appointment?

Before your laser hair removal appointment, we kindly ask you to shave the area 24 hours before your treatment.
Avoid any chemical peels or laser resurfacing in the treatment area.
Exfoliate to remove any dead skin build-up.
Ensure no fake tan is present on the skin.
Avoid excessive sun exposure on the area being treated two weeks prior (including solariums and spray tan)
Do not wax or pluck hairs four weeks before laser treatment.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

One of the benefits of laser hair removal is that the treatment is virtually painless, especially compared to waxing. Each pulse lasts less than a second, producing a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a rubber band snap on the skin.

Our advanced cooling machines used in all laser treatments cools your skin before, during and post-treatment to minimise discomfort.

How long should I wait in between laser hair removal sessions?

Depending on your hair and skin type and the area being treated, you will usually require treatments at 4-6 week intervals.
Each part of your body has a different hair growth cycle, so the hair loss will vary depending on what phase your follicles are in at the time of the treatment.

Can you do laser if you have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)?

One of the most common effects of PCOS on women is excessive hair growth due to hormones in the body.
If you are suffering from PCOS, you can choose laser hair removal. It can give you longer results than waxing or shaving. However as we usually recommend 6-8 sessions for laser hair removal, you might need to have more sessions depending on your hair and skin type as well as the degree of the effect of PCOS.

Can I have laser hair removal when I’m pregnant?

We don’t recommend to have laser hair removal while you are pregnant. Even though there are no studies show that the laser is dangerous for you or for the baby, you can still experience high discomfort and your skin can react negatively to the laser while you are pregnant or during breastfeeding.

You can start your laser hair removal treatment as soon as you stop breastfeeding.

Is laser hair removal safe on dark skin?

With the old technology laser hair removal machines, there was always the danger of pigmentation on darker skin tones when the laser is performed.
With the latest technology candela machines, you can now have a safe and effective laser treatment on darker skin tones as well.
During your free consultation, your clinician will examine your skin and inform you about how suitable laser hair removal for your skin.

Does laser hair removal help with the marks that are left with shaving? Like the green tint.

When you shave, you also exfoliate the top layer of your skin which can cause some skin irritations. And the green tint you are experiencing is a side effect of shaving on dry skin.
With laser hair removal, you don’t experience these marks on the skin after the treatment. However unfortunately laser cannot get rid of the previous marks on your skin. It will only get rid of the hair follicles on the treatment area. If you are looking for a solution to get rid of your skin marks and imperfections, our skin experts offer a free consultation to help you to reach your skin goals.

Can I wax or shave between my laser hair removal sessions?

Hair grows in different stages. And unfortunately, we don’t know which hair follicle is on which stage at what point. Laser hair removal burns the hair root and destroys it. And in order to do this, your hair follicle should be on the right stage. This is also the reason that we recommend 6-8 sessions in 4-6 weeks apart. As if your hair root was not on the right cycle on your first session, it is highly likely to be on the right cycle on the coming sessions.
Waxing or plucking will be effecting the roots of the hair follicles. It pulls off the root and messes up with the natural cycle of your hair. And when you come to your next laser session, your hair follicle may not be on the necessary phase.
But of course, you may not want to have any excess hair while waiting for your next laser hair removal appointment. Then you can shave between your session. This way you won’t disturb the hair growth cycle and you can temporarily get rid of the unwanted hair until you remove them permanently.

laser hair removal

How does laser work?

Lasers used in clinics are far more powerful then the home laser devices you may have seen online costing around a hundred pounds.

The laser emits a beam of light which passes through the top layers of the skin and targets and destroys the hair follicle. The laser light is absorbed by the pigment or colour in the shaft of the hair and follicle. The energy from the laser heats and permanently destroys the stem holding the hair.  This loosens the hair which will eventually fall out. New hair cells are also prevented from forming.

laser hair removal

What is the best laser?

Without baffling you with laser science, Laser for laser hair removal can be divided into 5 types. It would be nice if there was one laser that worked for everyone, Sadly this is not the case. A lot of clinic websites mentions different brand names all claiming to be the best, this  causes even more confusion!.

Here are the main things to takeaway.

IPL is not considered a laser, more a flashlight which does not penetrate deep into the skin. It shines light over a wide area affecting the surrounding skin. It should not be used if you have darker skin as it can affect your skin’s pigmentation. Also, hair removal takes longer as it is less effective.

  • ND: YAG LASER

Best for dark skin.

The Nd: YAG Laser is preferred for hair removal for dark skin. It is safer and its long wavelengths (1064nm) go deeper into the skin.

Popular brands: Candela Gentlemax Pro, Cutera CoolGlide, Cynosure Elite

  • ALEXANDRITE LASER

Best for olive skin.

Operates on the wavelength of 755nm although not as long as the Nd:YAG is suitable on a wide range of skin tones. Also has a larger spot size and repetition rate so is one of the quickest treatments available.

Popular brands: Candela Gentlemax Pro, EpiTouch Plus, Cynosure Apogee

  • DIODE LASER

Best for fair and medium-dark skin

The Diode operates on the 800nm wavelength and is designed for fair to medium-dark skin types. It is still fairly new so there is not proven like Alexandrite and ND:YAG.

Popular brands: SLP 1000, LaserLite,  LightSheer, ALma SopranoXL (also known as SHR, or Super Hair Removal)

  • RUBY LASER

Best for very fair skin

This is the oldest type of hair-removal laser. It operates on the 694nm wavelength so is suitable or very light skin and light hair removal.

Common brand names: Palomar E2000, RubyStar

Wavelengths tell you how deep it goes into the skin. The higher the number the deeper It goes. Nd: YAG has the highest number (1064nm) so it goes the deepest. This is important if you have dark skin as you want the laser to go deeper so it doesn’t change your skin colour on top by not going deep enough.

laser hair removal

DOES IT HURT?

Compared to other forms of hair removal like waxing or epilation most people would say laser hair removal is uncomfortable and not painful.

People experience pain differently and some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. Some people won’t notice a thing, others will feel a warming of the area. When asked to compare it something people have often compared it to being flicked with an elastic band.

After your session, the treated area is quite sensitive and can appear red for a few hours afterwards

laser hair removal

Does laser hair removal get less painful after each treatment?

Like most things, you should get used to the laser hair removal sensation and tolerate it better the more sessions you have. If the pain is more unbearable your practitioner can apply numbing cream over the treated area.

This will be applied and you have to wait up to 30 minutes for it to take effect. If you are on your period you this can make your skin more sensitive to the laser so it may hurt more during this time.

laser hair removal

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO i NEED BEFORE my HAIR DOESN’T GROW BACK AT ALL?

Laser hair removal works best when a course of treatments are performed at regular intervals. This should give you the best results. Most clinics recommend a course of treatments.

This is commonly between 6-8 sessions. Depending on how well you respond to the laser this may be more than enough or you may need to extra top up sessions to get the results you are after.

laser hair removal

Can I have a sauna after laser hair removal or exercise?

As the laser transfers a lot of heat energy into skin you should avoid anything that heats up the skin further like saunas and exercise for at least 48 hours following your laser session. This will allow your skin to continue with the healing process without interruption.

laser hair removal

Will six sessions of laser hair removal be enough?

Depending on how well you respond to the laser treatment and the area treated, will determine how many sessions you will need.

We have treated oriental clients who experience amazing results after just 4 sessions. Other clients with darker skin tones and thick coarser hair will probably need more than 6 sessions sometimes over 10. Hormones also play a part which differs from person to person.

laser hair removal

Sun exposure after laser hair removal?

You should cover up the area as much as possible to avoid sun exposure after your laser hair treatment. This is easier if you have had bikini line laser, but harder if your arms or face have been lasered.

The first 48 hours after laser treatment are important to protect your skin and avoid sunlight. Use a high factor sun cream with an SPF of 30+ and cover up. In the weeks following your treatment, continue to wear SPF and protect your skin by covering up as much as possible.

laser hair removal

WHERE CAN YOU HAVE LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

Laser hair removal can be performed on the following areas:

  • Face including ears, nose
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Underarms
  • Back
  • Legs
  • Pubic Area
  • Stomach
  • Bikini line/Brazilian
  • Buttocks and Perianal
  • Hands

laser hair removal

WHERE CAN YOU NOT HAVE LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

We receive a lot of requests to perform laser on eyebrows which cannot be done due to the dangers and risk involved of using lasers so close to the eyes.

laser hair removal

CAN I HAVE LASER OVER MY TATTOO?

No. you can have laser around the tattoo but not over it. The laser will be attracted to the colour pigment in the ink causing pigmentation issue to the skin. An experienced technician can skilfully go around your tattoo.

If you are thinking about getting a tattoo and want to be hair free, get laser hair removal done first.

laser hair removal

HOW LONG DO YOU WAIT BETWEEN SESSIONS?

Your sessions are usually spaced about 6 weeks apart. This is so your sessions are timed with your hair growth cycle that takes about 6 weeks

That is why you will be advised not to wax or epilate in between session as it will cause disruption to your hair growth cycle.

Shaving is fine as it cuts the hair above the epidermis or top layer whereas waxing and epilating remove hair from below.

laser hair removal

What if I miss a session what should I do?

It’s normal that life will get in the way sometimes. For best results you should try and stick to your appointments as consistency is the key to great results. As mentioned, if you are away and miss an appointment shaving is the only method you should consider. Shaving will cause the least impact on your treatment than the other methods of hair removal.

laser hair removal

HOW LONG laser hair removal LAST?

Results will vary from person to person. Hormonal changes can affect your hair growth too. You can experience up to 90% permanent hair reduction after you have completed all your treatments.

The occasional top up session may be required yearly. For most, the results have a huge impact on their lives.

laser hair removal

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

With most laser hair clinics pricing is structured to encourage you to buy packages. Clinics offering pay as you go prices will not give you the best results, unless you have previously completed laser and are buying a single pay as you go top up.

This is because laser hair removal requires consistency. Randomly buying pay as you go treatments is a bad idea. For the laser to work you need multiple sessions spread evenly apart. Laser won’t work without consistency.

Full body laser hair removal costs anywhere between £2000-£3500. Premier Laser price match so have some of the lowest prices in the industry. Expect to pay £3500 on Harley Street.

With finance options starting from £280 your monthly repayments can be as low as £22.

For an accurate quote please contact us for a consultation – don’t forget the mention our price matching if you are shopping around.

laser hair removal

ON AVERAGE, HOW MANY SESSIONS DO YOU NEED FOR THE BIKINI AREA or UNDERARMS?

These smaller areas respond well to laser hair removal. For best results, we recommend purchasing a package of  8 sessions.

laser hair removal

I HAVE VERY FINE extremely BLONDE HAIRS – WILL LASER WORK FOR ME?

Best results are usually experienced by people with darker hairs such as brown and black. Very light blonde hair does not contain enough pigment for the laser to work.

laser hair removal

Does laser work on red or ginger or grey hair?

The laser will not work on grey hair as it requires pigment. Although lasers have advanced recently making it possible to treat red and ginger hair for the majority of red and ginger haired people it is unlikely laser will work on you.

laser hair removal

IS LASER SUITABLE WITH PCOS?

If you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and want to have laser removal treatment you can achieve fantastic results with laser hair removal. Results are not guaranteed though as PCOS affects the body’s hair growth so continuous laser session may be required to stay on top of the hair growth.

It is important to do your research and have realistic expectations if you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome so you are not disappointed with the outcomes. Be careful of any clinics over-promising on results. Look for a clinic that will work with you, you feel comfortable with and will set up a treatment plan where you work and communicate closely together to achieve your goals.

It is not all doom and gloom though. We have seen clients experience life changing results which impacts their self confidence and quality of life with laser hair removal.

If you have PCOS are interested in laser hair removal the next steps would be to book a free consultation and speak to an experienced practitioner.

laser hair removal

IS LASER SUITABLE WHEN BREASTFEEDING?

No, you cannot have laser treatment while breastfeeding.

laser hair removal

IS LASER SUITABLE WHEN PREGNANT?

No, you cannot have laser treatment while pregnant. If you are trying for a baby then it is not advisable to start a course of treatments as the pregnancy will disrupt your treatment and effective your results.

laser hair removal

I AM PHOTOSENSITIVE. IS LASER STILL A GOOD OR SAFE OPTION?

It is difficult to give general advice for specific individuals with medical conditions to follow. So there is not a one size fits all answer. We would recommend you book a free consultation to find out your suitability and options.

What happens when you laser your face?

Having your face lasered is the same as having the rest of your body lasered. No extra measures are required. The area treated is marked with a white pen. Protective glasses are then worn by you and the practitioner. There is nothing to worry about, as they are also worn with other parts of the body to protect the eyes from the laser.

The laser then passes over the area being treated. Lasers are quite noisy. They also beep every time the laser is activated. You will continue to hear it beeping during the rest of your treatment.

Facial laser hair removal uses light energy to permanently damage or destroy individual hair follicles. The process is called photothermolysis. The treatment targets the roots beneath the surface of the skin. Powerful medical grade lasers, the same ones used in hospitals, prevent regrowth.

laser hair removal for face premier laser youtube video

Some lasers have a built-in cooling system. It blows cold air over the treated area. The skin gets cooled as the laser is passes over it and it reduces the pain levels. It will add to the noise in the treatment room.

Facial hair reacts to laser the same way as the rest of the body hair.

The laser beam is attracted to the melanin or pigment in the hair. It travels to the root, avoiding the surrounding tissue, and reaches the hair follicle before destroying it. Once destroyed the hair will not grow back.

Lasered hair usually takes 5-14 days to shed, or fall out. It will fall out naturally. You don’t have to do anything to speed this up.

Only facial hair in the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle is affected by laser. At any onetime only 15% of your facial hair will be in the anagen growth phase. So at every laser session only 15% of hairs will be destroyed or affected by the laser.

This is why multiple sessions are needed over several months.

laser hair removal forehead

The hair growth cycle also explains why you cannot have laser hair removal on the same area every week for 4 weeks in a row.

When you have laser hair removal your skin absorbs a a tremendous amount of light energy and needs to recover. Compare it to being sunburned.

If you had sunburn from a sunbed or sunbathing you would not go back every week. This would badly damage the skin if you did. You would wait for the skin to fully recover before going back.

It is the same with laser. Skin needs to heal.

In addition to the healing, appointments are spread about every 6-8 weeks so your laser treatments can be timed and synchronised with your hair growth cycle. This ensures all the hair would have been in the growth phase of the hair cycle at some point during your treatment and been destroyed.

Can facial hair be permanently removed?

Facial hair can be permanently removed by laser hair removal. Results of up to 90% hair reduction can be achieved with laser. For most this has a tremendous impact on their lives. After all, your face is the first thing people notice about you!.

If you forget to shave your legs for a few weeks a bit of stubble may grow. It probably will not bother you too much and your legs can be covered up. If your sideburns or moustache starts becoming noticeable or your eyebrows are slowly becoming joined this can be start to cause concern for you. With laser you won’t be continuously worrying or self conscious about unwanted hair growth.

facial laser hair removal goggles

Is laser hair removal safe for the face?

Laser hair removal on the face is just a safe as having laser hair removal on any other part of the body. With any laser treatment goggles are worn by the client and practitioner for safety.

Lasers used in reputable clinics are the same lasers used in hospitals and medical practices worldwide. So are extremely safe.

Laser hair removal on the face can be very successful. Results depend on many factors:

  • Choice of clinic.

The clinic will affect your results based on the technology used and experience of the practitioner.

How often should I laser my face?

Laser hair removal in a clinic will require you to buy a package of 6 – 8 sessions. Anything less will not give you the results you are after. If you purchase a package of 6 sessions for your upper lip then your sessions will usually be scheduled every 6 weeks.

This means you will complete you course, if you keep to your scheduled appointments in 30 weeks.

You will not need to keep purchasing another 6 sessions every year. 90% of your hair should be removed after the first 6 sessions. You may need the occasional top up session every once in a while but that is it.

How long does laser hair removal on the face last?

Unlike shaving or waxing which is on-going, after completing your laser hair removal package results are long lasting. You will not need to laser your facial hair every month. Any hair you notice growing back will be a lot thinner, lighter and finer.

If you do notice hair growth you can opt for top up sessions or removing the finer, lighter hairs by your previous methods.

Top up sessions may be yearly for some or every two years for others.

Compare this against the cost, time and inconvenience of constantly waxing or shaving. This is why many choose laser.

Is laser hair removal painful on the face?

How painful laser hair removal is on the face depends where on the face you are having laser done. Some parts the face, with thicker skin, hurt less then other parts of the face, with thinner skin.

Laser on your sideburns and chin hurts less then your upper lip where the skin is thinner.

Pain ranges from 2/10 for your sideburns, forehead and chin to 8/10 for your upper lip. ( 1 is pain free – 10 the most painful).

Also some people are able to tolerate the pain better. Men and women generally tolerate pain differently too.

Laser hair removal pain is often described as being flicked by an a hot elastic band. The pain is short lived. Facial areas do not take long compared to larger areas like legs or back.

You are advised to treat affected skin as if it had been sunburned. This will avoid further damage and limit side effects. Keeping skin moisturised, away from light, and regularly checked for signs of infection is important.

Avoid sun exposure after treatment. Immediately after your laser session a cooling aloe vera gel is placed over the area. This will help to cool down the skin. You should liberally apply aloe vera gel in the days after treatment. If you are in discomfort you can apply cool packs to the treated area for relief. Always wear a good quality SPF sun lotion between sessions.

What are the side effects of laser hair removal on the face?

The side effects for facial laser hair removal are the same as if you were having full body laser hair removal. Side effects are minor and temporary and the following may appear after your laser session.

Blistering & Burns

These are rare side effects but make it even more important to use a reputable clinic, using the latest technology and an experienced practitioner.

Scaring

Scarring can occur if your practitioner makes a mistake. Scars can also occur if you do not follow the right aftercare.

Infection

Colour Change

Crusting

How many sessions of laser hair removal is needed for the face?

With any laser hair removal area 6-8 sessions are recommended. Top up session may be need for some taking total sessions to 11+.

Because the facial area is smaller then other areas it tends to react well to laser hair removal.

Good results can be experienced in 6 sessions by most. Your clinic will recommended how many sessions you need depending on a range of factors described above.

Can you laser your upper lip?

Laser hair removal on the upper lip is one of the most popular areas for laser. No one wants to see the beginnings of  a moustache on their upper lip. Laser is effective at removing hair above your lip.

Laser sessions are really quick as the area is small so can take less then a few minutes to perform. As the skin on the upper lip is thinner then other areas of the face, the upper lip tends to be one of the more painful areas to have laser hair removal.

Laser Ear Hair Removal

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Your ear hair can now be history thanks to laser hair removal. Todays lasers can target ear hair so you never have to worry about those embarrassing stray hairs again.

  • No more having to always be on the look out for unwanted hairs as they seem to sprout overnight and grow rapidly!.
  • No more trying to remove them with tweezers, ear hair trimmers or even your razor when shaving.
  • No more being embarrassed by discovering stray ear hairs after an important meeting or on social ocassions.

This peace of mind alone is worth every penny you spend on laser hair removal. We will get to prices soon.

Can you do laser hair removal on ears?

The answer is a resounding yes!. Ear hair removal can be done with a number of hair removal methods including waxing and hair removal creams but nothing is effective as getting rid of your ear hair then laser.

With other methods you will have to perform them regularly too. With laser, permanent hair removal is possible. Laser light destroys the hair follicle of individual hairs so your ear hair will not grow back.

Laser also works on body hair, facial hair including nose hairs and is effective on all hair types and skin tone.

ear hair laser hair removal

mens ear hair removal

Across our London clinics we mainly see men who have laser hair removal treatments on their ears.

Men ranging from their early twenties to older.

Unfortunately for men they can lose hair on their heads but hair growth everywhere keeps on flourishing and seems to grow faster the older you get.

Outer ear hair can grow around the front and back of the ear and even in the ear canal. From the earlobe or lobule and tragus , around the outer helix and antihelix and the scapha and antihelical fold.

For those of you who are not ear experts it is basically all the parts of your outer ear where hair can sprout from.

Does ear hair grow back?

Laser hair removal on the ears can remove hair by up to 90%. These results are achievable after completing a course of laser hair removal. Laser hair removal for the ears is cannot be done in one session with your ear hair never to return.

Six to eight sessions are required to make sure all the hairs are destroyed. This is because the laser can only kill around 15 per cent of your hair every session.

Hairs have to be in the growth phase to be destroyed. Only 15 per cent are in the growth phase at any one time.

Your appointment will also be spread around six weeks apart to make sure the laser can kill and destroy all the hairs in the ‘anagen’ or growth phase.

So if you are thinking about removing your ear hair by laser expect the treatment to be completed in around 30 weeks if you have six sessions or up to 42 weeks if you have 8 sessions. This is assuming you do not miss or have to reschedule any appointments which would mean longer.

How To Shave Correctly for Women

If you are worried about the interruption to your laser hair removal treatment due to the lockdown and the effects it will have,  we have prepared a guide for you where you will learn

  • A brief history of the hair cycle
  • Premier Laser free offer to you
  • Shaving, the basics

Why do you need multiple laser hair removal sessions anyway?

Our laser expert and director Lucy Xu explains why:

Hair grows in 3 different stages.

  • The Anagen stage – which is the active growth stage,
  • The Catagen stage – the transition period,
  • The Telogen stage – also known as the resting phase.

She continues “while laser targets the root of the hair, it can only work on hair in the Anagen stage, as this is the only time the root is connected to Dermal Papilla”. As we don’t know which hair is on the Anagen stage at the time of your treatment; we can only destroy about 10% of the total hair per session – the ones in the Anagen stage. On your next session the laser will target and destroy the next group of hair in the Anagen stage. And so it continues, until all the hair has been destroyed, over several sessions and months. That’s why multiple sessions are needed for hair removal.

Is shaving the only option?

The options for removing hair will affect the hair in different ways. Waxing or epilators target the hair root and can change the hair growth cycle (Anagen, Catagen, Telogen stages) this will reset your treatment so is a big no-no as you will have to start your treatment over. Plus laser targets and destroys the root of the hair. Epilation and waxing will get rid of the hair but the hair will come back even stronger. So your previous laser sessions to weaken the hair roots go to waste. If you cannot wax and epilate that only leaves one option…Shaving!

But I don’t want to shave my face!

If you are having treatments on your face i.e. sideburns, upper lip, or full face; you may not want to shave. Which is absolutely fine, but avoid waxing or plucking! We recommend you trim your facial hair with scissors if you can, or try cover up with makeup. For dark facial hair, the best way to hide it is by using a thick foundation followed by powder and light blush on the hairy area to blend the colour. However, if you are half way through laser treatment, you may only have light hair on your face. To hide it, you can use a light liquid foundation only followed with powder.

Getting back to shaving

Even though we recommend shaving in between laser sessions as a last resort, you should try to keep to a minimum. The less you shave the better results you will get when you come back for laser hair removal treatment.

In case you have forgotten: Shaving tips 101

Of course we’re all expert shavers but if you haven’t done it in a while it’s easy to forget the basics. Here’s a quick reminder.

(Plus with these tips, you’ll prevent ingrown hair, razor burn, or any nasty skin irritations.)

1) Take a warm shower or bath

They are great for softening your skin and opening up your pores. You’ll get the most out of your shaving and lessen the possibility of side effects.

2) Exfoliate

While in the shower use a loofah or gentle scrub to exfoliate the area you want to shave. This will get rid of dead skin and help the razor to glide over your skin, giving you a closer and longer-lasting shave.

Do not exfoliate after shaving, as it may cause additional irritation to your skin.

3) Apply shaving cream or gel

If your skin is well-hydrated and you are using the right products you will reduce the risk of skin irritations, ingrown hairs or razor burns. Never try to shave without using shaving cream or gel, as it may burn off your skin or results in cuts.

For a smoother shave, immediately after your shower, while your skin is still wet, apply some oil. Rinse off. Then use the shaving cream or gel.

4) While shaving

Use a fresh razor. An old or clogged razor won’t work well and may irritate your skin. Also make sure you don’t go over the same are too many times and rinse the razor frequently.

5) After shaving

Rinse thoroughly with cold water to close your pores then use a soft towel and lightly pat dry. Moisturise with light body oil or cream. While soap and water dry your skin, shaving also will increase this effect. Using a generous amount of moisturiser will help to protect your skin. Also try to prevent shaving while you are on your period, as your skin will be more sensitive.

Shave the right way

Change your shaving technique depending on the part of your body you are shaving.

Shaving legs;

It is best to shave in long, steady strokes.. Also, be careful around the bonier areas as you don’t want to any cuts. Bend your leg while shaving your knees and stretch while shaving the back of your leg. Also, you can stretch your foot to opposite directions while you are doing your ankles.

Shaving underarms;

Underarm hair usually grows in different directions. So shaving in one direction may not be enough. For the best result, lift your arm above your head and shave in short strokes in all directions.

Wait for 1-2 hours before applying deodorant.

Shaving bikini area;

As the skin on your bikini area is more sensitive, you should shave gently. Shave in the direction of the hair growth first, and then for a closer shave, you can go against the hair growth direction.

Make sure to use special creams after such as Bepanthen or nappy cream which are thicker and richer and you will eliminate the irritation, as many moisturisers may not be suitable for your skin on the bikini area.

Avoid a sun tan

Even though most of us are spending time at home locked away from the sun, if you spend time in your garden or balcony sunbathing please make sure to use SPF at all times to avoid a tan! If your skin is tanned from sun exposure, sunbed or tanning lotion you would need to wait 4-6 weeks for it to fade so you can re-start your treatment. If you have any questions please contact us.

If you are just considering starting your laser hair removal why not take advantage of our free e-consultations and get the ball rolling. During the e-consult you can ask all your questions to our skin experts and once life goes back to normal all you have to do is to pop in for a patch test.

  • Avoid scented or perfumed products such as soaps, creams or colognes and perfumes.
  • Do not touch, scratch or pick at your skin to avoid further irritation.
  • Do not exfoliate or use a peel
  • Wear a high factor SPF
  • No shaving – even if you spot a stray hair !

Aftercare 14 days following Laser hair removal

  • Limit UV exposure
  • No self tanning
  • Avoid waxing, plucking, threading as this will disrupt your hair cycle and effect results
  • No depilation creams for same reason as above
  • Avoid exposing your skin to harsh weather conditions.

For 6 weeks + preparation for next laser session

  • Use a high factor sun protection SPF30+
  • Limit sun exposure and do not use sunbeds.
  • Keep skin moisturised in preparation for your next laser hair removal session

Laser hair removal aftercare does not require any complicated routines to follow for weeks after your appointments. This is because laser hair removal is a relatively simple process with little recovery time.

However, it is important that you take time to care for your skin after the procedure. Caring for your skin means it will remain healthy and moisturised.

Aftercare immediately following your laser session

Immediately after your laser hair removal session, you can expect your skin to be slightly red and irritated, this is totally normal. It might even feel like mild sunburn. For many people, this disappears within a few hours.

But for others, it may take a few days before it totally goes. If you notice any of your skin blistering, you need to discuss this with the clinic where you had the treatment as this will be a reaction which shouldn’t happen.

laser hair removal aftercare

How to soothe your skin during aftercare

If you find the redness after your laser hair removal treatments to be uncomfortable and sore, there are things you can do to help ease the redness.

  1. First you should get some cold compresses and apply these to the area of skin that’s red, to help any swelling go down. You might consider using ice if you don’t have any cold compresses , or a cold bath. This should soon have your redness going down.
  2. Making sure the area of skin is kept clean is also an important point, to avoid infections.
  3. You should also moisturise the area. Moisturising creams aid in the recovery of the skin in the areas that were treated with the laser. The clinic you go to will probably recommend some creams for you to use.
  4. Consider using a daily moisturiser in the days leading up to your next treatment, if you have purchased a package are having a course of treatments. This will also keep your skin generally healthy and supple and give you optimum results when having your laser hair removal procedure.

In general, many people feel fit and ready to go back to work immediately after treatment. Others may feel they need a little rest, but this shouldn’t be more than a day or too. Depending on the length of treatment, area of skin being treated and skin type, all after care guidelines can vary and you should speak to your clinic.

Laser aftercare and what to look out for

There are a number of side effects you should also look out for during the after period following your laser hair treatment. These are mostly minor and temporary in the hours, days and weeks after your laser hair removal session. If you do experience any lasting side effects you should contact your clinic and speak to your practitioner.

Redness, irritation and slight swelling

As mentioned this is the most common side effect that will need your attention and aftercare. They generally do not last long and your skin may look and feel like it has been plucked or waxed. You can request a numbing cream on your next laser session to help you manage the sensation if it was uncomfortable.

Irritation should go down within a few hours of your laser session.

Changes in pigmentation

You may also notice colour changes where you had laser. It may get slightly darker (hyperpigmentation) or lighter (hypopigmentation) following laser hair removal.

These will tend to fade away over time with and the skin returning  to normal.

Crusting

You may experience your skin crusting over in the affected area. Although inconvenient it is a minor issue and you should not worry too much about this. To avoid scarring and scabbing take care of the area with a good quality moisturiser.

Changes in pigmentation

You may also notice colour changes where you had laser. It may get slightly darker (hyperpigmentation) if you have light skin or lighter (hypopigmentation) if you have dark skin following laser hair removal.

These will tend to fade away over time with and the skin returning  to normal.

skin infection

Like other hair removal methods, by damaging hair follicles this carries a risk of  infection risk.

Treat the affected area as a wound while healing takes place and contact your GP or clinic who can advise you. Do not apply strong over-the-counter (OTC) antibiotic creams to large areas of your skin if an infection occurs.

laser hair removal

Rare side effects

Laser hair removal is a safe, FDA approved treatment. Thousands of men and women undergo laser hair removal every year. With all cosmetic procedures risk are attached. Uncommon side effects after laser hair removal can include:

Burns and blisters

There is a risk of burns and blisters if laser hair removal is not done correctly. So always have your laser performed by an experienced practitioner in a reputable clinic.

With an experienced practitioner burns and blisters are extremely rare. A cooling Aloe Vera gel is applied after treatment and is an effective natural way to cool the skin. You can continue to use Aloe Vera gel as aftercare following your laser sessions.

If you do experience burning then contact your GP or clinic who can advise you further.

Scars

Scars may form if the correct aftercare is not followed. It is important to treat your skin like it is sunburnt to avoid damaging it further. Protecting it from sunlight, and checking for signs of infection and keeping it moisturised, are key.

To get the most out of your laser hair removal sessions and to maintain healthy skin it is important you look after you skin following every laser hair session. Following a good aftercare routine and regularly monitoring your skin will help you and your skin to keep looking at its best for longer

Client Focused & Latest Laser Technology

Our clients are at the heart of everything we do and this is reflected in our reviews online which we would encourage you to read.

All of our clinics are equipped with the latest in laser technology.

Our trusted laser partner over the years has been the Candela Gentlemax Pro. The same lasers are used in hospitals and medical practices worldwide.

This ensures our clients receive the best treatment available. And as you expect, having performed laser hair removal every day for over 12 years we are pretty good at it!.

Experience

State-of-the-art technology in the wrong hands will not get you the results you are after. We pride ourselves in having some of the most experienced practitioners operating in the industry today.

We only employ practitioners with a minimum of three years experience so you can trust that you are in safe hands.

Hair removal in Kent

If you are considering using a local clinic make sure you find out the technology they are using and the experience of the practitioner.

If they use unbranded machines, purchased cheaply of the internet for a fraction of the cost of a Candela, and the practitioner is an inexperienced junior member of staff just out of college, you will be placing yourself at risk. At the very least you may be disappointed with your results.

  2. What areas are included in the Hollywood laser hair removal?
  3. 9 Benefits of Hollywood Laser hair removal

  5. Is Hollywood laser hair removal painful?
  6. How long a Hollywood laser hair removal last does it last?
  7. How to prepare for Hollywood laser hair removal
  8. How much does Hollywood laser hair removal cost?

What is Hollywood laser hair removal?

Hollywood laser hair removal is the complete removal of pubic hair from the whole female genital area. Other popular styles of laser hair removal on the female pubic area include the bikini and Brazilian. The basic bikini laser includes the bikini line and upper thigh. The Brazilian laser extends the bikini line leaving a strip of hair down the middle.

What areas are included in the Hollywood laser hair removal?

The areas covered include the following all hair in the genital area including.

9 Benefits of Hollywood Laser hair removal

For some women the benefits are:

  1. More self-confident
  2. Happier with their appearance
  3. Better sexual experience
  4. Match their active lifestyle of yoga, sports, swimming without worry
  5. No ingrown hairs again
  6. Personal hygiene
  7. No more shaving and waxing
  8. Saves time
  9. No irritations

Hollywood laser has more permanent results than any other hair removal method like :

  • Waxing
  • Plucking
  • Sugaring
  • Depilatory creams
  • Shaving

After 6-8 sessions of Hollywood laser, you’re hair free and don’t have to worry about it again. Saving a great amount of time! It also lacks the irritation that can occur from shaving, provides smooth skin. So no more pain, discomfort, irritation or bad hair days down below.

Does Hollywood laser hair removal get rid of ingrown hairs?

Having ingrown hair on the genital area is more common than any other parts of the body. Hollywood laser hair removal stops any possible ingrown hair.

This is due to thicker hair in the area, tighter clothing, and because the skin is much softer in this part of your body, it is easier for the hair to grow sideways in the skin after aggressive hair removal like shaving.

Shaving or plucking leaves you with thicker hair than before. And because most of the hair removal options often break the hair just below the skin surface, the hair can turn under the skin and pierce it.

Anyone who suffers from constant ingrown hairs can relate to them being uncomfortable and also sometimes very painful when infected. They are also quite hard to remove

As laser hair removal targets the hair roots and prevents the regrowth of hair under the skin, it quickly and significantly reduces the amount of ingrown hairs in the area. After the first 2-3 sessions of your treatment, you will see a significant difference as your hair will appear thinner and sparser.

Is Hollywood laser hair removal painful?

Some people find laser hair removal slightly uncomfortable while some don’t mind it at all. It depends how well you tolerate pain.

As the laser works with the hair follicles under the skin, you might feel a slight tingling. And if you have really sensitive skin and low pain threshold, you might feel a little discomfort. Clinics will have a solution for that!

While you are getting your laser treatment, lasers blow a constant cold air which soothes your skin and decreases the amount of pain you might feel. Also, at the beginning of your laser session, clinicians apply numbing cream or cooling gel to the area which significantly decreases the discomfort. By your 2nd or 3rd session, the number of hair follicles will be decreased significantly, which means less discomfort. And with each time you will get more used to it. So do not worry if your first session was a little uncomfortable. It will only get better!

How long does a Hollywood laser hair removal last?

Laser hair removal provides up to 90% hair reduction after 6-8 sessions.

The results will last much longer than any other hair removal options.

Regrowth depends on several factors. Such as;

  • The number of sessions completed
  • Genetics
  • Hormonal factors
  • Skin colour
  • Underlying medical conditions

Normally we would recommend 6-8 sessions to achieve the best results of permanent hair reduction. However, results may vary from person to person. Some people might need top-up sessions after some years.

Most people are happy with the dramatic results and the life changing impact it has on personal beauty regimes. You may require the occasional top up session every year to maintain results.

How to prepare you bikini area for a Hollywood

For the best results and most comfortable treatment, follow your practitioners  advice.

  • Avoid any tanning. Suntan and sunbeds are equally dangerous if you allow your skin to tan before your laser treatment. As if your skin is tanned, the laser can burn the surface. Leave at least 4 weeks before getting you laser treatment if your skin is tanned.
  • Avoid waxing or plucking before laser hair removal. As these options change the hair growth cycle, the laser will not be able to catch the hair follicles on the right stage and it will not be able to reduce the hair.
  • Do not bleach your hair. The darker the hair follicles, it is easier for the laser to see them.
  • Clean the treatment area before your session. Don’t use any cosmetic creams before your session. You can ask for sanitary towels from your practitioner at the beginning of your session to clean the area as well.
  •  Make sure that you have between 4-6 weeks full hair growth before your first session.
  • Shave 24 hours before your laser appointment and NOT on the treatment day. To read more about how to shave correctly, you can visit our blog
  • Gently exfoliate your bikini area 3-4 days before your session. Don’t leave it to the last day or after you shaved. Otherwise, it might irritate your skin.
  • Ensure all the excess hair from the labia and perianal area has been removed.
  • Wear loose clothes for your treatment. Make sure your underwear is not too tight. Cotton underwear is perfect.
  • Avoid caffeine before your treatment. It can increase your sensitivity.
  • If you have a low pain threshold, you can take a mild pain reliever before your session (not Ibuprofen)
  • Some of our clients find chewing gum during the treatment helpful or listening to music, or even just having a chat with you practitioner.
  • Try to schedule the treatment the week before of the week after your period. Most importantly, relax, you’re in safe hands.

How much does Hollywood Bikini Laser hair removal cost?

The cost per session is as little as £69. We always recommend between 6-8 sessions, you can also get a great discount on packages.

At Premier Laser our prices are

40% discount on 6 sessions, the price for session is £83

50% discount on 8 sessions, the price for session is £69

The average price for Hollywood waxing in London in 2020 is between 40-60.

When you compare the costs of laser hair removal, it is not much more than waxing in comparison to session cost. And the results are much effective and more permanent.

Tips for a successful bikini hollywood laser

For laser hair removal to work you must remember the 3 c’s!. That is

  1. Consistency – Be consistent with your intervals between sessions
  2. Commitment – Follow practitioner instructions and don’t miss appointments
  3. Communication – Give your practitioner feedback on your results every session

Added to the 3 C’s to guarantee the best results you must

  1. Choose a reputable clinic
  2. Use the latest technology
  3. Have an experienced practitioner

If any of those are missing – you will be left disappointed. Great technology used by an inexperienced practitioner, or a great practitioner using inferior technology will be not give you the results you crave. Cheap laser hair removal will not include all 3 and will put you at risk.
