Best winter skin treatments

Sunshine leaves us earlier…
Roads get frosty early in the morning…
And now you can see your breath outside….

Say hello to winter.

During the colder months, our bodies go through many changes to adapt to the weather and to help us survive this season easier. Our metabolism works faster to keep us warm. Less water is stored in our bodies as there is less heating on the body less sweating. Also, we loose some of the natural moisture we have on our skin due to the cold and dry weather.

Winter skincare, by nature, should be different than your summer skincare. As the needs of your skin will change, the routines should chance too. And what about the clinical level of your skincare?

We’ve listed you the best 3 most popular skin treatments for the winter.

Dermapen Microneedling for winter

Dermapen Microneedling is an amazing treatment to help you to get rid of your skin imperfections. It creates controlled wounds on your skin and promotes its own healing process. Because the wounds on your skin are not actual wounds, your skin overcorrects the area and you end up erasing the last few year’s effects from your skin.

One of the most important parts during your dermapen treatment is after you had the treatment you need to stay away from the sun exposure for 1-2 weeks. During this time your skin healing process will be working actively and if you would get any suntan during this time, it may cause unwanted pigmentation and skin marks.

Dermapen microneedling treatment is performed in different settings. If it is your first time having the treatment, your practitioner will use the lower settings. This means the tiny needles will penetrate your skin 0.5-1mm. If you are having dermapen microneedling treatment regularly, then your practitioner can increase the level up to 2-2.5. The severity of your treatment will also be depending on your skin type and condition. If your skin thin and your skin condition is not too severe, your practitioner will prefer lower settings. The higher settings you get your treatment will give you bigger skin shedding after. If you are having a high setting treatment, sunshine will have more effect on your skin. So if you are suffering from some serious acne, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles or pigmentation; winter is the best time to have your course of dermapen treatment.

Dermapen microneedling is one of our invasive skin treatments as, during your treatment, tiny needles will punctuate your skin to create micro-tears. Because of this, after your treatment, you can feel hot, tingling and a mild burning sensation on your skin. Most of our clients prefer having their dermapen microneedling treatments during the winter times as the colder weather is making the time after the process easier.

Hydrafacial for winter

Hydrafacial is one of our most popular treatments. It is non-invasive. Cleans and clears your skin, hydrates and gives you the immediate red carpet glow right after your treatment.
As we’ve mentioned during the winter times, your skin doesn’t store as much water as summer times. This way your body spends less energy to warm you up, as there isn’t an antra litre of water stored that it needs to heat up. Also, as cold air is less humid, your skin gets dried from outside as well as inside.
Hdyrafacial treatment provides your skin with the hydration it needs. Even though you change your skincare during the winter and you start using more oil-based moisturisers for a stronger effect, no skincare cream can reach the benefit of Hydrafacial.
With the winter season, we also experience higher pollution in the air. This pollution gathers on your skin and fills up your pores. This can then cause acne, blackheads or other skincare problems. With its cleaning and extracting formula, Hydrafacial will help you to get rid of the effects of winter pollution.
Winter times are also when we experience the most undereye puffiness. As days are shorter, we do use more artificial lights and it tires our eyes. This is one of the reasons for black under eyes or undereye puffiness. With the lymphatic drainage, which is the first step of Hydrafacial treatments, you can get rid of your undereye puffiness and can have a more refreshed look.

Skin peels for winter

The Mystery of Undereye Dark Circles – And How to Solve It

You look… tired. Even after a night’s rest. Even after a relaxing, restful vacation. Dark circles under your eyes make you look exhausted, older and less vibrant.

  • But what exactly are they?
  • What causes them?
  • And most importantly, how do you erase them from your face?

What are Dark Circles?

Throughout most of your body, the skin is about 2 mm thick. Under the eyes, however, it is only 0.5 mm. Periorbital dark circles occur when the skin below the eyes shows blood vessels and pools. If you have light or fair skin, the contrast is more striking – that is, the circles are darker.

They appear bluish in people with fair complexions because the skin only allows in the blue wavelength of light. So essentially, dark under eye circles reflect the light from the blood under this thin skin.

We associate dark circles with lack of sleep; this is because this slows circulation and blood is allowed to pool.

Exacerbating the problem, as we age, our skin loses elasticity and becomes thinner. This creates the appearance of deep circles. You may also blame your family: genes play a large role in whether or not you are prone to these blemishes.

Effective Treatments for Dark Circles

Fortunately, there are great treatment options for those struggling with dark under eye circles. Our recommendations:

combining microneedling with radiofrequency, this treatment stimulates the production of collagen and assists in plumping and firming skin. The thin skin under the eyes becomes more full and less able to reflect blue light.

puffiness or “bags” often accompany dark circles. Dermal fillers work to retain lost volume under the eyes, resulting in brighter, more youthful eyes.

this technique works by penetrating beyond the surface of the skin to prompt cell regrowth. The gentle heat targets the connective tissue, allowing it to contract and lift.

Mystery solved! The only question left is which treatment is right for you. Book your consultation to find out.

Banish Your Eye Bags!

Imagine this scenario. You put in a good eight hours with your head on the pillow the night before your job interview. You wake up the next morning hoping to look great, but when you glance in the mirror, there are those frustrating bags under your eyes again. What are you doing wrong? Why won’t they go away?

The Science Behind Bags Under Your Eyes

The skin under your eyes is incredibly delicate, and as a result, it can weaken and sag easily. When it does, fluid accumulates in that spot, and you begin to see swelling you might not see in other places. Heredity plays a role in just how noticeable your bags are, but anyone can get them from a number of different things. Seasonal allergies can cause them, as can problems like sleeping face down. Smoking and alcoholic beverages can cause them too.

What You Can Do Now

There are a number of things you can do to put an end to the problem. Sure, that decent night of sleep helped a lot, but you may need to take things one step further if that’s not enough. A healthy diet can really matter as well. High sodium diets, like the kind found when you eat too much take-away, can cause you to retain water, even under your eyes. Lower your salt intake a bit, and you may find they disappear on their own. Staying hydrated can help too. If you’re not getting your eight glasses of water each day, you’re not doing enough for your skin, and you may experience those bags under your eyes.

Consider a Tear Trough Treatment

If you have a deeper than average tear trough, a dermal filler can help refresh and rejuvenate your eyes. It’s completely non-invasive. During our tear trough treatment, we’ll simply inject a filler with long lasting results that will help minimise the appearance of eyelid bags. Ready to get started? Book your session now.

Fighting Those Dark Circles Under Your Eyes!

You probably dread them the moment they appear – they’re huge, noticeable, and willing to invite almost anyone passing by to ask “Are you getting enough sleep, dearie?” They’re the dreaded dark circles under your eye, and whether you’re getting plenty of shut-eye or you’ve spent the night at the club, they can appear at almost any moment. They’re easily one of the most frustrating problems, but don’t worry – you do have a few weapons in your arsenal!

What Are Dark Circles Under The Eye?

Dark circles, sometimes called periorbital dark circles, are actually caused by a number of things. While a night without sleep or a few too many at the pub can certainly cause them, there are some other problems that may be at play. Seasonal allergies could also be causing the problem. Likewise, sleeping too much may be an issue, as can eczema, stress, or even crying. In all of those cases, though, the dark circles might disappear. When you have to deal with them day after day, though, they’re not likely to go anywhere soon, and the causes of constant dark circles can be different.  You may have inherited them from your parents. They could also be caused by excessive exposure to the sun or even skin pigmentation abnormalities. Unfortunately, the natural process of aging could also be the culprit. As you get older, you lose the fat and collagen around your eyes, and that magnifies what may not have seemed like a dark circle just a few years ago.

The Best Fix For the Problem

While some dark circles may disappear on their own, for those that seem more permanent, home remedies just aren’t going to do the trick. Instead, you need professional help, and at Premier Laser & Skin, we can give you just that. Our Sublative Radio-Frequency Skin Resurfacing is designed to tighten, lift, and smooth that skin, giving you a far more youthful appearance.

This unique lift moves beyond the surface layers of your skin. It reaches deep within the layers to help stimulate cell regrowth, completely eliminating those dark circles. Designed for people ages 30 – 50, it can either be used as a preventative measure or the perfect treatment. The results develop over as little as eight weeks, and the technology behind this amazing treatment is highly effective, safe, and FDA approved.

How Can I Remove My Eye Bags?

Unwanted extra baggage or “pouches” beneath your eyes can cause you to look permanently tired. Attracting unwelcome comments of ‘you look tired?’ or ‘are you ok, you look sad?”. When you catch your reflection you don’t recognise the ‘stranger’ staring back. This isn’t fair as you feel great and full of energy on the inside, but your outward appearance tells the world a different story.

Do eye bags go away?

Eye bags are one of the banes of many people lives. They may have occurred through ageing where the tissue and muscles supporting your eyes weaken, as collagen and elastin breakdown, and skin starts to sag. With fat moving to the space below your eyes and retaining fluid your eyes can look swollen and puffy. Ageing is not the only cause of eye bags, they can also be a result of:

  • Lifestyle
  • Not getting enough sleep
  • Genetics
  • Smoking
  • Sun damage
  • Allergies

Sometimes eye bag appearance may be temporary. They may be improved by a good, toxin free diet, more hydration and sleep. If you have a predisposition to eye bags then you may need to look at more permanent methods of improving them.

eye bag before and afterhow do you permanently get rid of eye bags without surgery?

The skin around the eyes is extremely delicate and thin. It doesn’t repair itself as easily as other parts of the face and so it needs to be taken care of. Because most of us want to look fresh, bright and healthy any effective treatment which can rejuvenate the area is going to be an attractive option. Blepharoplasty or surgery around the eyes will require 10-14 days of hiding away and downtime.

Surgery can cost around £3,500. There are other effective options available.

can you laser undereye?

You may not want the costs, risks and longer recovery time associated with eye surgery. So what are the non surgical alternatives?. There are two non surgical options that are extremely popular. Lasers and fillers. There are two types of laser treatments for eye bags. They are called ablative and non ablative.

  • Ablative laser treatments treats the outer surface of the skin directly. It involves rejuvenation by removing the top off layer of skin. It has a longer recovery time as your body has to heal the ‘wound’ created and carries a greater risk then non ablative laser treatment.
  • Non ablative laser treatments treat the layers below the surface. It works from the inside out. Ablative laser treatments work in the opposite way.

laser treatment for baggy eyes

The most common non ablative laser treatment is called Sublative Rejuvenation. It is perfect for pulling up the under eye area without any surgery. Sublative refers to the micro ”sub ablation” fractional holes it causes in the upper layers of the skin using an electrode attached to a handheld device.

best laser for under eye bags

Under eye laser Sublative Rejuvenation for eye bags is one of the most effective methods for brightening the under eye area and encouraging the growth of new collagen. Sublative rejuvenation is growing more popular every year. It can achieve the same results you get with more aggressive laser treatment without the lengthy downtime associated with aggressive ablative treatments.

How it works

This non-invasive treatment uses fractionated bi-polar energy (laser) to penetrate below the skin and to stimulate collagen production. The treatment helps stimulate the re-growth of cells. As the skin is targeted with the laser, the connective tissue where skin is joined to muscle is also lifted and tightened. The end results are a natural, youthful appearance with no stretched or unnatural look to it whatsoever.

Is it painful + costs

Because the treatment is very precise and controlled it is not painful and those undergoing it will not feel any pain…it’s a safe and effective treatment for all skin types too. Treatments take around an hour to complete and most people are extremely pleased with the instant result.

Prices start from £208 per session

eye bags before and aftertear trough fillers

Another option for eye bags are tear trough fillers. They can provide transforming results in less then 10 minutes. Fillers do not add volume to the bags themselves, as this could can make surface bags worse. Instead filler is used to restore volume, creating a smoother transition between the eye and cheek area. It can even out dark, puffy eyes. The lift filler provides volume and reflects light instead forming dark shadows that can make dark puffy eyes appear even darker. Fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid. This is naturally produced by the body and tolerated well. Treatments should only be carried out be an experienced, qualified medical practitioner to reduce the risk of leaving visible lumps. If the skin sags significantly surgery may be the only answer.

Shining A Light On Dark Under Eye Circles

Dark under eye circles are very common for most of us, however there seems to be a common misunderstanding that it is only caused by sleep deprivation. Sure this might be the main culprit but if you are someone who usually heads off to bed while the sun is still shining outside only to get up the next morning and see a pair of dark patches under your eyes you will be happy to know there are other causes.

In this article I will explain the various causes of dark under eye circles and hopefully remove the fog surrounding this subject.

Sleep Deprivation:

As most of you reading this will already know depriving yourself of a good nights quality sleep is the main cause of under eye circles. The reason for this is because lacking in sleep can cause the blood vessels to become prominent under the very thin layer of skin under your eyes. The thin layer of skin means any changes are easily exposed. There are many reasons you may not be getting your recommended 7-8 hours of sleep a night and while some may not be fixable other certainly are. Is it really necessary to stay up till the early hours of the morning banging away on your PS3 control pad? If you are one of those people that stay up late for no real reason then you have just got into a bad routine and this is easily fixable. However some things may be less apparent…maybe you do go bed early but still feel like a zombie in the morning. If this is the case try changing your mattress as your current one may be not comfortable for your body shape.

Genetics:

If you fall into this category then you are quite unfortunate as there is nothing you can do in terms of treating the problem naturally. Since it is recognised as a medical issue it cannot be treated by natural means. Individuals with fairer skin are mostly affected by this genetic condition and if you want to try and rid yourself of them you will have to resort to either surgery or medication. Other options include using cosmetics to cover up the dark circles although this may not be the preferred choice for the fellas reading this.

If genetics are to blame for your dark circles then it would be a good idea not to do anything else that would make the condition worse. Try and limit the following:

• Smoking

• Alcohol

• Excessive use of salt

Too Much Of The Sun:

I know here in England the Sun is not a regular visitor but when we do get a few of the odd rays it is important not to spend too much time in its presence without protection. However don’t take this the wrong way and go extreme by becoming a hermit in your own home and boarding up the windows. As with everything just take the proper precautions – in this particular case by wearing sun cream.

Eating Habits:

I am sure you have heard the saying “you are what you eat”, and to a certain extent this is true. Obviously it doesn’t mean if you eat lots of vegetables you will look like a carrot, instead it refers to if you eat healthily your body will be healthy and look healthy. You should always make sure your body is receiving the required vitamins and minerals – avoid crash diets at all costs!!!

Cosmetics:

Hang about… didn’t you say earlier that cosmetics could be used to cover up dark under eye circles? Well yes I did but some cosmetics can become the cause of the dark circles instead of helping you cover them up. Stay away from very cheap makeup and if you find a certain brand or product is causing any skin issues then it would be a good idea to see a skin dermatologist. A dermatologist can help tell you what kind of products to avoid and certain ingredients to look out for that could cause you skin problems. In general try to go easy under the eyes where the skin is very sensitive and make sure to wash it off before you hit the hay at night.

Aging:

Sorry I know this is another that you really didn’t want to hear, well not unless you have discovered the fountain of eternal youth anyway. As we get older the fat pads under the eyes start to naturally shrink which gives the shrunk appearance. There is not much to say on this matter apart from making sure you live a healthy life therefore ensuring you get less skin problems at an elderly age.

Allergies:

A lot of sinus related allergies such as hay fever can make the under area of your eyes appear puffy and swollen. If you have any allergies such as hay fever then try and make sure you treat them as soon as possible to keep the puffiness under control.
