Remove Your Unwanted Birthmark With Laser Treatment

Many people have a birthmark somewhere on their body…just how large or noticeable it is can determine just how comfortable they are with this individual and sometimes annoying phenomenon.

Some people feel very self conscious of their birthmarks and strive to hide or cover them; others don’t worry about their marks and accept them for what they are.

What are birthmarks?

Birthmarks are nothing more remarkable than a quirk of the melanin or the blood vessels within your skin…they’re caused by a concentration of pigment within a particular area or by an unusual grouping of blood vessels and can appear almost anywhere on the body.

If you are unhappy with your birthmark then the good news is that most birthmarks can be treated and within a few short sessions with laser.

They can disappear almost completely and today’s laser techniques are so advanced that many birthmarks can be removed or at least considerably diminished relatively simply.

skincare hyperpigmentation for dark skinvarious types of birthmark

  • Vascular Birthmarks

These are generally reddish in colour and are sometimes referred to as “port wine stains”. They’re caused by an unusual formation of blood vessels and can appear anywhere on the body. This is a very common type of birthmark and they can be treated with laser therapy. A number of sessions may be necessary to ensure the most effective fading.

These are a pale pinkish colour and most often appear on the eyelids and the neck. In many cases the marks fade away as the child grows but those on the neck may be more stubborn and require laser therapy.

  • Pigmentation Birthmarks

These are brown and can be hairy…where hair is present they are known as “Hairy Nevus” and they can be removed with laser therapy. Caused by a concentration of pigment in one area it is advised that they are kept under observation in case of changes which could point to melanoma. It is also advised that removal is wise where possible and laser therapy can successfully treat this type of birthmark.

  • Strawberry Birthmarks

Sometimes called “stork bites” these are raised, red birthmarks which are caused by the rapid growth of blood vessels. Many of this type disappear or fade by the time a child is around 3 years of age. They can be removed with laser therapy.

How does laser therapy remove birthmarks?

Laser light is attracted to pigmentation…it can be very precisely focused so that the surrounding skin and tissue is not affected and as the light hits the darker areas of skin, it breaks up the melanin and the skin is gradually lightened.

How long does it take?

Most people will undergo 3-5 sessions and experience up to 80% reduction of visibility. Darker or larger birthmarks may take more sessions to successfully remove than smaller paler marks.

Is birthmark removal by laser painful?

The treatment is not painful; some people liken the sensation to a tingling, prickling or pinging feeling and as it is non-invasive there is no need to take time off work or school once a treatment is complete.

Before treatment commences, you will have a consultation with a practitioner who will examine your birthmark and together you will make a treatment plan to ensure the most successful removal of your birthmark.

What Is Pigmentation and What Causes It?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Pigmentation literally means colouring and when we’re talking about skin pigmentation it includes the natural or irregular colouring which appears on the face or body. There are various disorders which affect skin pigmentation and they’re caused by different factors.

Some severe skin pigmentation issues occur due to autoimmune conditions, hormonal changes and even shock; Vitilligo is one such pigmentation disorder and it is usually most noticeable in those with dark skin as it causes the loss of pigmentation in the skin which means that pale patches appear all over the face and body.

Additional Causes

Other more common pigmentation issues are caused by the sun and sometimes by pregnancy…the distinctive “Mask of Pregnancy” often present on the faces of women who are expecting a baby for instance…this is often known as melasma.

Skin care experts and doctors are unsure of the exact reasons for some pigmentation changes but others such as sun spots are down to simple sun damage. All skin contains cells known as melonocytes which produce melanin …the substance responsible for giving skin its colour. When there is too much melanin present this creates areas of hyper-pigmentation and when there is too little melanin this is called hypo-pigmentation.

Hyper-Pigmentation

Hyper-pigmentation is the cause of the dark patches which often appear on the skin of those affected; beige, brown, red and purplish patches appear in various areas of the face and cause much unhappiness if they are particularly noticeable.

When the skin has been affected by sun exposure the hyper-pigmentation is often found across the cheeks, nose and forehead as these are the areas most exposed…they can appear in the guise of freckles and age spots or just as uneven patches of colour. It is not entirely understood why hormonal changes can also affect the skin in this way but many people find that their skin is affected due to pregnancy or menopausal changes.

Scarring as found in acne sufferers can also cause hyper-pigmentation and this is often upsetting as it tends to be red in colour and very noticeable and difficult to cover with makeup as the surface of the skin is usually damaged and uneven.

Hyper-pigmentation is a distressing but common issue for many people and there are many routes to go down when searching for help with this issue. Skincare experts can advise further and a course of treatment is often available for most issues.

If you have skin pigmentation that you would like to removal there are various treatments available. Take a look at our article the ‘Best Treatments To Beat Pigmentation‘  for more information.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Beauty Mistakes You Probably Weren’t Aware You Were Making

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]When it comes to a good beauty routine, many of us are guilty of relying too much on old habits and not thinking hard enough about what we’re including in our regular wash and brush-up!

If you have skin problems then it’s even more important to stay on top of your beauty routine and to keep re-evaluating what you’re doing to your face and body on a regular basis…some of those old habits could be harmful! Ever slept with your makeup on for instance? Neglected to apply moisturiser for days? If you’re guilty of leaving out the most important basics then read on and see if you’re making beauty mistakes you could regret!

  • Not drinking enough water: It’s a basic beauty tip that you’ve probably read umpteen times…drink more water yada-yada…but the simple fact is that drinking water really makes a difference to not only your skin but also your hair and potentially your weight! A well hydrated body is far more successful at cell renewal and at flushing out the toxins which cause spots and blotches. Get yourself a shiny new water bottle, keep it full and empty it regularly!
  • Sleeping on a dirty pillowcase: So you change your bed linen once a week? That’s not regular enough if you’re prone to spots and pimples. You should change your pillowcase every other day; you don’t need to change the rest of the bed but your face is pressed against that fabric for around 8 hours every night and if it’s full of your drool and bacteria from your hair then it won’t help your skin to improve! Put a clean case on your pillow and the next day flip it to the other side…on the third day change it for a fresh one…and repeat. You will notice a difference within a few weeks….especially if you also take on our first tip about drinking more water!##CATEGORY-BANNER##
  • No sunscreen: Yes we know…it’s sometimes a pain to remember but you must wear sunscreen daily. An SPF of 15 is better than nothing but a higher one is preferable. Find a good moisturizer with SPF 30 and you’ll be onto a winner…so will your skin!
  • Neglecting your beauty sleep: It’s not called that for nothing you know! Sleep is the great healer and it’s the time when our bodies regenerate cells and “fix” minor issues. Get your 8 hours a night and your skin will appear fresher and less puffy…your complexion will be smoother and clearer within weeks.
  • Touching your face: Keep your fingers off your face unless they’ve just been washed! Hands are teeming with bacteria which can cause spots and pimples…try to become aware of how often your hands are on your face and stop it!
  • Using old products: Many women keen the same cosmetics for far too long. Your mascara, blushers and bronzers in particular should be changed every 6 months. Makeup and the brushes used to apply it are germ magnets and you nobody wants to be rubbing germs and bacteria on their face as part of a beauty routine!

So many of the bad habits related to beauty routines are based on cleanliness and good management of the things your face comes into contact with. if you have been guilty of mistreating your skin why not give it a little boost with a Vitamin C Rejuvenation Facial or a Blue Peel. You will be amazed at how great your skin will look and feel after only a single treatment.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

How to Remove Skin Pigmentation

What Causes Pigmentation?

We’ve all got pigment in our skin…it’s what gives us our unique complexion and colouring…but some people have areas which are over-pigmented. This means they suffer from darker patches of skin which can be quite disfiguring and can cause sufferers to be self conscious; this can have a knock-on effect on enjoyment of social events or day to day life in general.

Beauty Industry Booming with many Jobs to Fill in

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Due to economic recession on an international scale, we have all witnessed higher unemployment rates and lower salaries for those still having a job. This has been going on for the past years in most industries. However, if we look at the stats, we see that even in the middle of recent crisis, the beauty industry has somehow managed to keep its head up high and continued its growth. Given the current context of increasingly more countries getting out of the recession, this field is booming with jobs all over the world.

Why should you be interested in the beauty jobs market around the world? Having a CIDESCO accredited diploma upon graduating a beauty therapy course allows you to work almost anywhere in the world. With the online jobs market you can easily find one on the other side of the planet. If travelling and relocating are not an issue for you, then sky is the limit!

Beauty Jobs Trends around the World

A quick search for “beauty jobs” on Google returned 680 million pages. This gives us a first look on how big the numbers are. If we were to dig deeper, then this is how worldwide stats would look like for the beauty industry: an extensive demand of highly trained and skilled beauticians. And the forecast for employment rate in this sector for upcoming years looks more than encouraging.

USA

In the U.S. alone, for example, the unemployment rate in the salon industry is 2.3% lower in comparison to the rest of the world. Plus, the revenue growth is expected to increase to up to $49.3 billion by 2017. The overall employment rate in the beauty industry is also expected to growth nearly 14% by 2020. To give you an idea of how strong this industry is, know that while 2 million jobs have been lost in the U.S. job market since the 2000s, the beauty industry managed to add an impressive number of 75.000 jobs and make up for the deficit (pun unintended).

We can only imagine the increase during a positive economic outlook. If you’re wondering why this growth and why the beauty industry still strives in the U.S., we can simplify it for you: Hollywood. Actors, singers, art performers, people inspired by them and those who wish to enter the entertainment industries are all dependent on the beauty industry. And guess what? We will always have artists, singers and movie stars.

australia

Moving from the US to Australia. Here, statistics show the same trends of growth in terms of jobs openings and revenue, with an expected revenue in the beauty industry of nearly 2.5 billion by 2017. The number of new jobs is also expected to increase strongly.

UK

In the U.K. alone, the beauty industry shows similar growth trends as the rest of the world. There is a huge need of highly skilled beauticians and laser hair removal practitioners all over the country. Several factors contribute to the expansion of demands in the beauty sector. First of all, there is the diversity of the beauty therapy field.

As we already see a vast array of specialities, followed by a continuum of evolution in technological discoveries and new sciences. Secondly, constantly new niches are being added to the already existing ones, thanks to the new technologies.

Cryolipolysis of fat freezing and blue light or laser treatments are just one of the many examples. And as we know, along with the new comes the need for highly trained people and more job openings or business opportunities.

The slow economic recovery makes people willing to spend more time and focus on their well-being. We see middle age women more preoccupied for their looks, men more interested in having great body images and so on. Overall, it looks like the beauty industry is one of the wisest choices for anyone looking to build a beauty career.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Beauty Mascara Magic Tricks Revealed!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Dynamo has wowed crowds all over the world with his magic tricks; however his recent stunt levitating over London’s largest building, the Shard, has come under fire. Dynamo appeared to be levitating over the colossal building which stands at an impressive 306 metres tall, however recent images clearly show wires attached to either side of him suspending him in mid air.

Mascara Magic Tricks

Unlike the famous magician we actually have some mascara magic tricks that are not an illusion. There are no smoke and mirrors here and certainly no wires, what you are about to see is real and with a little practice can be done by anyone to achieve long, volumised lashes with ease.

Let Your Mascara Wand Choose You!

Any of you that are into magic have surely seen Harry Potter. Well not unlike the wand that chooses the Wizard you have to let your Mascara choose you. What does this mean? Well everyone has different lashes, some people lack volume while others lack length or curl. Make sure to choose your magic mascara wand that is right for you.

For an example of how 100 different mascaras look on the same eye have a look at the Cosmopolitans posts here.

Sprinkle Some Magic Powder

Runny and smudged mascara is the bane of any woman’s existence. How do you overcome seeing your mascara smudged all over your face (slight exaggeration) before you even leave the front door you ask? To stop any smudging use a blotting powder or any other type of powder that dries translucent. Start by using a small brush and dip it into the powder, applying a few coats. Make sure to get right to the tips of your lashes and for added protection apply a setting or finishing spray.

Use Your Magic Shield    *cough* Plastic Spoon *cough*

Even the most advance makeup magicians struggle with applying mascara without the need for a little help. Before you start to apply the makeup make sure to find a plastic spoon and place it face down (indentation facing skin) between the lashes and your lids. This creates a sort of shield that protects your eyelid but doesn’t inhibit your ability to apply the mascara.

Rotate Your Wand In A Circular Motion

If you want to add length to your short lashes then it’s time to start rotating your wand. As you apply the mascara to your lashes rotate the brush from the root all the way to the tip.

Give Your Wand A Wiggle

Not everyone is born with nice thick lashes, so where nature has failed us, makeup fills in. Yeyyy!!! To add volume and separate the lashes you need wiggle your magic mascara wand as you move towards the end of your lashes – this stops clumping and makes your lasher appear thicker.

Revive Your ‘Dead’ Mascara.

Mascara can be expensive and for those of you who go through a whole tube in as little as under a month knowing how to get the most out of your tube is a money saver.

Run your mascara wand under hot water until it runs clean. Dip the wet wand back into its tube and rub it against the walls of the inside of the tube – the heat of the brush and the water will soften the dried product bringing it back from the dead.

This Is My Wand. There Are Many Like It, But This One Is Mine

Many women throw out their favourite wands along with the tube of empty mascara. A good mascara magician is only as good as the wand she uses. If you have a favourite wand that you have been using make sure to save it and only throw away the tube. This ensures that you can then reuse it with any mascara you want for the best results.

Beauty Tips Men Should Steal From Women

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Guys, It’s Ok To Look After Your Skin

The bad old days of men who didn’t give a hoot about their beauty regime are thankfully over. Our laser hair removal for men is now more popular then ever!. Men are now free to enjoy their personal grooming as much as women can. Why should they? Because taking care of your skin and body will result in a healthier, happier you of course!

There are many beauty treatments and good habits which women indulge in which aren’t just for the instant results and they’re certainly not all to look “pretty” but many of them will stave off ageing and help keep skin in tip top shape, eliminating dryness or oiliness as required.

Beauty Tips Men Can Steal From Women

The top beauty tips which do men just as much good as they do women are here…and if you’d like to roll back the years and keep yourself in great condition then you should be indulging in as many as possible!

  • Cleansing your face every night:

This is a very important tip and you certainly don’t need to be wearing a full face of makeup to require a good, deep cleanse in the evening! Your face takes the brunt of the weather and of outside factors such as dirt and dust in the environment and over production of oil. Buy a good facial cleanser and get your face spotless before you snooze!

  • Group exercise:

Whilst many men belong to sporting teams, those who don’t may be missing out on the camaraderie and encouragement offered by joining in with a group. Yoga, Pilates and cycling are all very man-friendly activities and there’s far more fun to be had working out together!

  • Decent hair removal techniques:

No woman in her right mind would ever scrape a razor blade across her face or chest on a regular basis but men do it all the time! There’s simply no need! Laser hair removal techniques today are so far advanced that they work excellently on men’s tough hair. Many men are getting wise to this and having laser hair removal treatments done on their faces and bodies. It reduces the need for harsh shaving and makes your skin smoother!

  • Anti-ageing peels:

That’s right…skin peels remove a layer of the dermis in order to smooth and even out your skin. It’s a fantastic treatment for anyone who has suffered from acne or wants to keep fine lines at bay. The best thing about it is that it’s not painful or particularly costly! Get with the picture and join women in their peeling habits!

  • Eating well:

It would be patronising to say that women eat a better diet than men generally do but the fact is that there is some truth to the statement. Men are more likely to eat junk food without a second thought and perhaps because women put weight on more easily, they are far more aware of what they’re putting in their mouths in general. Watch what you eat because it will reflect in your looks!

Things are changing for men as they realise that taking care of themselves doesn’t mean they’re not “manly”. Far from it in fact! A man who is in touch with his body is far more attractive than one who neglects himself. Take care of your face and your body with equal attention to detail and you will soon be reaping the benefits.

Superfoods – The Cucumber

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Superfoods

We’ve all heard about Superfoods…they’re the wonder stuff that can fight infections, beat the ageing process and encourage cell regeneration and healing. It’s not a joke…some foods have almost magical properties which if you’re interested in nutrition and in eating well you should learn to harness for your own good.

So called Superfoods are always natural….never processed and they are stuffed full of nutrients which work together to ensure that the food is powerful in terms of many positive effects.

The Cucumber

Cucumbers fall into the Superfood category and they’re thought to be particularly good for the skin, the liver and kidneys and the joints. They are full of electrolytes and phytonutrients which are what ensure that they give you energy. Not only that but they’re also loaded with silica a mineral which is essential for healthy connective tissue in muscles, cartilage and bones and they are full of ionic potassium, vitamin C and magnesium!

Recent research has linked the consumption of cucumbers with reduced risk of breast cancer and prostate cancer in addition to cardiovascular disease.

Skin matters

As mentioned above, cucumbers are excellent for connective tissues which includes skin but that also means that they can be applied topically to improve your skin’s condition. The presence of ascorbic acid within cucumbers are what makes them excellent at calming down swollen or sore and tired eyes and they’re also great for sunburn and inflammation in general. If you suffer from water retention, cut some slices of cucumber and place them in the areas most affected and watch the magic at work!

If you are planning to apply cucumber topically it is important to seek out organic varieties; many cucumbers on the high street will have been exposed to pesticides and that’s not something you want on your skin. If you can’t find organic, then remove the skin and use them skinless.

Is there anything this amazing vegetable can’t do? The best thing about cucumbers is that they’re so easy to include in your diet…add a few slices to the side of any meal and they won’t be out of place. Dice them into salads, cut them into sticks to serve as a snack; they’re tasty, inexpensive and amazingly healthy…one of our most powerful Superfoods!
