TIPS TO MINIMISE MASKNE

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

What is maskne?

Mask + Acne = Maskne. Maskne occurs whens acne breaks outs result of wearing a mask. Maskne can develop in as quickly as one day of wearing a mask, or after several weeks of mask wearing. Due to COVID-19 it has become an everyday lifestyle to wear a mask to protect ourselves and everyone around us. However, one of the unwanted side effects of wearing masks is that it can cause acne, rashes, redness and breakouts to appear.

Premier laser & Skin has put together top 5 tips to help educate and inform our clients to minimise breakouts.

What causes maskne?

Wearing a mask creates a humid environment that can cause blockage due to mask causing a barrier between the skin and fresh air. Wearing a mask causes sweat, oil and bacteria to build up and this can clog our pores. The weather can influence maskne too. During warmer climates, maskne is most likely to be caused by clogged pores, whereas colder climates maskne is created by friction on dry, sensitive skin.

Top 5 tips to minimise maskne:

  1. Gentle Cleanse:

Stick to unscented or fragrance-free cleansers, gentle cleansers removes excessive sebum (oil) from the skin and, swear and bacteria. Using scented and fragranced cleansers can be irritating to the skin and make it harder for the skin to heal when we breakout.

2. Moisturise

Moisture your skin after cleansing and before wearing your mask especially during winter climates to keep the skin hydrated, this will prevent water loss and improve the barrier function of the skin.

This will act as a protective barrier between your skin and your mask and also prevent rubbing which causes irritation, which can lead to skin abrasions and breakouts.

3. Avoid wearing heavy make-up

Avoid wearing heavy make-up or foundation underneath the mask as it may have the potential to lead to spots/acne. Wearing heavy make-up or foundation underneath the mask as it may have the potential to lead to spots/acne due to blockage of pores. You can use a light BB or CC cream as a less harsh alternative.

4. Keep Hydrated

As much as we can take care of the outside, we need to take care of our inner health. Keeping hydrated throughout the day is essential to keeping skin as hydrated as possible to flush out all toxins and help improve skin’s barrier function. You can also use water face sprays to refresh your skin in-between the day to refresh your skin,

5. Choose the right mask

Choosing the right mask material and fit is essential to not only keeping yourself and other safe throughout covid-19, but also to reduce damage to your skin.

To avoid skin breakouts, choose the right mask by making sure:

  • fits correctly, but not too tight
  • has 2 or more layers of fabric
  • is made of natural, soft fabric (like cotton)

Avoid masks made of synthetic fabrics, such as nylon or rayon. These materials can cause further damage to the skin and cause irritation.

Best winter skin treatments

Sunshine leaves us earlier…
Roads get frosty early in the morning…
And now you can see your breath outside….

Say hello to winter.

During the colder months, our bodies go through many changes to adapt to the weather and to help us survive this season easier. Our metabolism works faster to keep us warm. Less water is stored in our bodies as there is less heating on the body less sweating. Also, we loose some of the natural moisture we have on our skin due to the cold and dry weather.

Winter skincare, by nature, should be different than your summer skincare. As the needs of your skin will change, the routines should chance too. And what about the clinical level of your skincare?

We’ve listed you the best 3 most popular skin treatments for the winter.

Dermapen Microneedling for winter

Dermapen Microneedling is an amazing treatment to help you to get rid of your skin imperfections. It creates controlled wounds on your skin and promotes its own healing process. Because the wounds on your skin are not actual wounds, your skin overcorrects the area and you end up erasing the last few year’s effects from your skin.

One of the most important parts during your dermapen treatment is after you had the treatment you need to stay away from the sun exposure for 1-2 weeks. During this time your skin healing process will be working actively and if you would get any suntan during this time, it may cause unwanted pigmentation and skin marks.

Dermapen microneedling treatment is performed in different settings. If it is your first time having the treatment, your practitioner will use the lower settings. This means the tiny needles will penetrate your skin 0.5-1mm. If you are having dermapen microneedling treatment regularly, then your practitioner can increase the level up to 2-2.5. The severity of your treatment will also be depending on your skin type and condition. If your skin thin and your skin condition is not too severe, your practitioner will prefer lower settings. The higher settings you get your treatment will give you bigger skin shedding after. If you are having a high setting treatment, sunshine will have more effect on your skin. So if you are suffering from some serious acne, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles or pigmentation; winter is the best time to have your course of dermapen treatment.

Dermapen microneedling is one of our invasive skin treatments as, during your treatment, tiny needles will punctuate your skin to create micro-tears. Because of this, after your treatment, you can feel hot, tingling and a mild burning sensation on your skin. Most of our clients prefer having their dermapen microneedling treatments during the winter times as the colder weather is making the time after the process easier.

Hydrafacial for winter

Hydrafacial is one of our most popular treatments. It is non-invasive. Cleans and clears your skin, hydrates and gives you the immediate red carpet glow right after your treatment.
As we’ve mentioned during the winter times, your skin doesn’t store as much water as summer times. This way your body spends less energy to warm you up, as there isn’t an antra litre of water stored that it needs to heat up. Also, as cold air is less humid, your skin gets dried from outside as well as inside.
Hdyrafacial treatment provides your skin with the hydration it needs. Even though you change your skincare during the winter and you start using more oil-based moisturisers for a stronger effect, no skincare cream can reach the benefit of Hydrafacial.
With the winter season, we also experience higher pollution in the air. This pollution gathers on your skin and fills up your pores. This can then cause acne, blackheads or other skincare problems. With its cleaning and extracting formula, Hydrafacial will help you to get rid of the effects of winter pollution.
Winter times are also when we experience the most undereye puffiness. As days are shorter, we do use more artificial lights and it tires our eyes. This is one of the reasons for black under eyes or undereye puffiness. With the lymphatic drainage, which is the first step of Hydrafacial treatments, you can get rid of your undereye puffiness and can have a more refreshed look.

Skin peels for winter

We all have different skin needs but one thing is for sure, during the winter we need to take better care of our skin to make sure it doesn’t dry up. Otherwise, it can get patchy in a short time. And can get more fine lines and wrinkles in the long term.
At Premier Laser & Skin we offer many skin peels that would be suitable for your skin and it will provide what your unique skin type and condition would require.
With the correct skin peel to your skin type and condition, you can get rid of your acne problems, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, increase hydration, and give your skin its regular care.
If you don’t know which skin peel is the most suitable for you, you can speak to our skin experts. Our highly experienced practitioners offer free skin consultation to understand your skin type and complaints. They will offer you the correct bespoke skin peel for your unique results, and help you to achieve your skin goals.

10 Benefits Of Hydrafacial

Hydrafacial, also known as the Hollywood facial, has been one of the biggest skincare revolutions in the beauty industry. You’ve probably seen a famous model or a singer talking about Hydrafacial. Or realised a sudden glow on your friends face after she tried it. Over 2 million treatment performed over the world, hydrafacial is getting more and more popular everywhere.

What makes Hydrafacial this famous?

It is not too often, a skincare procedure would be everyone’s favourite. But Hydrafacial has definitely built itself a strong place. But how?
Here are some of the main reasons most of our clients prefer Hydrafacial as a part of their regular skincare routines.
  • Immediate results
  • Lifelong good skin
  • Suitable for all skin types
  • Gives an overall skincare
  • 6 treatments in 1 session
And of course most importantly ‘the amazing skin benefits’. We’ve listed the 10 Hydrafacial skin benefits for you.

Hydrafacial deep cleanses your skin

For healthy skin, you should clean your skin twice a day with a skin appropriate product. On your daily skincare routine, you probably would have cleansers, tonics, balms, wipes, and ointments. But even if you are following a very strict daily skincare routine, that Hydrafacial treatment will really show you how much dirt, makeup or dead skin cells get stuck in your skin. Hydrafacial, with its pore vacuum, deeply cleanses your skin and gets rid of all the nasty parts our cleaners cannot reach. If you don’t believe us, look at your deposit water after your Hydrafacial treatment. After each treatment, the dirt, oil and other deposits are collected in the deposit jar. You can see everything that has been cleaned from your skin.

Hdyrafacial for detoxification

Your 6 step Hydrafaical treatment starts with Lymphatic Drainage. This part of your treatment is performed with a special glass device which uses very light pressure and long, gentle rhythmic strokes to your skin. It increases the flow of lymph as well as reducing the toxins in your body. Lymph is a clear fluid that is consisted of white blood cells which bathe the tissues. Your lymphatic system is a part of your body’s immune system and it helps to fight with infections. Lymphatic drainage step will promote the absorption and movement of your lymphatic fluids and help get rid of toxins, bacteria, viruses and infections.

Hydrafacial for undereye puffiness

Tiredness, stress, bad sleep… You can usually read these signs from under your eyes. Undereye puffiness is a condition 80% of the population suffers from at some point in their lives, and in most cases, pretty much regularly. With tiredness and ageing, the muscles around eyes supporting the tissues get weaken. And the skin can get saggy, also causing gaps in the undereye tissues. By the time your lymphatic fluids may accumulate in the space below your eyes. This causes swelling and as we know it, undereye puffiness. With correct pressure points, light pressure and continuous rhythm on lymphatic drainage, Hydrafacial will help you to get rid of your undereye puffiness.

Hydrafacial for less congested pores

We all know the acne is caused by bacteria and inflammation stocked in your pores. Sweat, leftover makeup, pollution and dirt on your skin gather in your pores. When you clean your skin you will always leave some of them left. Doesn’t matter what you are cleaning your face with. You can use special face soap, home use deep cleanse machines or nose strips. You can never reach the deep pore cleanse as well as Hydrafacial. Hydrafacial opens up your pores, prepares your skin to deep suction with exfoliation and salicylic acid. Once your skin gets softened and ready to be cleaned, the deep suction clears up all your pores and leaves with you perfectly cleansed skin.

Hydrafacial to get rid of acne

Even if your skin is not acne-prone or oily by nature, you can still be suffering from acne. As we’ve mentioned before when your pores are filled with swear, dirt, pollution or any other outside effects; the bacteria start to cumulate on your skin. The more bacteria are collected, the more puss is created on your skin. And when the puss is gathered, it forms the acne. There are different types of acne. Such as blackheads or whiteheads which are easier to be cleaned gotten rid of. And there are also other types of acne where the puss cumulates under the skin and is much harder to get rid of. Such as pustule or papules. Hydrafacial can help decrease the appearance of your acne, whichever the type it is.

Hydrafacial for deep hydration

As it is in the name, Hydrafacial provides a deep moisturising effect on your skin. On the hydration step, a special solution filled with vitamins, peptide. These customisable serums give your skin all it is lacking for a glowing and healthy appearance. When the serum is applied with the special tip attached on the Hydrafacial applicator, it penetrates the skin deeper and better.

Hydrafacial for a deep skin peel

The skin peel treatments help to refresh and renew your skin and appearance. Regular skin peels get rid of the top layer of your skin and clear off the dead skin cells. This promotes your body’s natural renewal process and helps you to have a better looking and feeling skin. Also, it helps the skincare products to penetrate your skin better and reach deeper layers. The second and third steps of Hydrafacial is focused on skin peeling and extraction. These steps help you to have younger-looking skin and also helps you to benefit more from the vitamins and peptides applied to your skin on the upcoming steps.

Hydrafacial for personalised skincare

While most of our clients prefer to have monthly Hydrafacial treatments as a part of their skincare routine, some of our clients also prefer Hydrafacial as a personalised skincare routine. During your consultation with one of our skincare experts, depending on your skin needs, they can prepare you a personalised skincare plan with Hydrafacial. On this personalised routine, your expert will plan your treatment which can be weekly treatments for 4-6 weeks. And choose the special ingredients for you, depending on your skin concern.

Hydrafacial for a younger-looking skin

There are more than one ways how Hydrafacial can help you to have younger-looking skin. As we all know hydration is one of the key elements when it comes to younger skin and overall skin health. With the special hydration methods of this treatment, your skin will feel plump, healthy and fresh. Regular skin exfoliation helps you to get rid of the head skin cells and promotes the body’s natural skin regeneration. With the glycolic and salicylic acids applied during your Hydrafacial treatments, your skin benefits from good healthy exfoliation. And lastly, with the lymphatic drainage, your skin will get rid of all the toxins and reach to its best appearance and health.

Hydrafacial for a good skin for life

Hydrafacial is not just a facial. It answers most of your skin needs and gives you the best skincare you need. We recommend you to have regular treatments for a great skin for long-lasting results.

How To Get Rid Of Love Handles

Love handles, muffin tops, baby fat, potbelly… No matter which name you use, the excess fat on flanks doesn’t sound nice.

Our bodies store the extra fat for energy. Where it is stored depends on genetics and lifestyle. When some people gain weight, the fat is stored in an equal manner to the whole body. Abdomen, arms, hips, flanks, and even face.

But for some people, excess fat is stored in some particular areas of the body. For example, many women store the extra pounds either on their abdomen or on their hips.

lovehandles

There are many genetic and hormonal reasons behind why we are storing our fats in these areas. For example, women having wider hips than men and storing fat around the hips actually helps while carrying a baby.

And we also know the testosterone hormone is causing fat bulges on the arms. That’s why men usually have wider arms comparing to women. And by the time women age, with the increase of the testosterone hormone on their body, they also start storing fat on their arms as well.

But with love handles, it is not entirely genetic or hormonal.

Of course, if you are genetically more prone to store fat on your belly and flanks, you are most likely to have wider love handles. But it is also directly connected to your lifestyle.

lovehandles

Why do we have love handles?

90s fashion introduced us to low waist trousers. Which, by the most classic fashion designers, is considered as bringing the end of the hourglass figure for women.

Our bodies can be shaped very easily. Using low waisted clothes for years also started to shape our bodies as well. This new fashion creating pressure just under our abdomen and flanks made a visible cut on our waist area. Just like a toothpaste tube, when most of us gain weight, we keep the belt-line just under our tummies. And the excess fat stores on the top of it.

This extra fat on the flanks is called love handles or if it joined forces with the tummy fat, you have a proper muffin top.

So when we are dieting and exercising to get rid of the excess fat, we might lose significant weigh. But because the fat bulges on these areas actually belonged to a bigger area, and with the fashion or other lifestyle choices they have gathered in a more specific smaller area, we see a smaller change here, or we get stuck with some stubborn fat pockets.

lovehandles

How to get rid of love handles?

Coolsculpting is a highly effective fat reduction treatment. It is not a weight-loss method. But it is to fight with specific problem areas and the fat bulges. It freezes the excess fat cells and breaks them. Then the dead fat cells leave the body in natural ways.

Coolsculpting is applied to the body with applicators. It can be performed in different areas of the body. And to reach many areas, it is designed with different size applicators.

Coolsculpting on love handles are usually applied with 2 regular size applicators, one on each side of the body. The coolsculpting applicators can be applied on both sides of the body at the same time. This way your treatment time will be reduced by half and you can get back to your daily life right after your treatment.

During your coolsculpting treatment love handles, the machines are secured with a special band and we also use body pillows for extra comfort.

The coolsculpting treatment takes as little as 35 minutes on love handles. During your coolsculpting treatment, your clinician will offer you drinks and you can spend your time on your phone, catch up with your series or listen to music.

After your coolsculpting on love handles, your clinician will make an intense massage to both areas. This will help the fat cells to break easier and will help increase the fat loss percentage.

To increase the effects of your coolsculpting treatment on love handles, you can also make this message to yourself on the following days! Right after your treatment, you can go back to your daily life.

lovehandles

While coming to your coolsculpting appointment for love handles area, we would recommend wearing some loose clothing. If the weather allows, you might want to prefer a loose dress to help you with comfort. If not, prefer to wear loose waisted trousers rather than tight ones.

And make sure your underwear is not tight and uncomfortable.

After the coolsculpting treatment, your love handles can get swollen and can feel some discomfort. This is absolutely normal. It will go away in a week.

After having coolsculpting on your love handles, you can start seeing the results in 1 month. Our clients usually realise the most significant change around the 3rd month. And the fat loss usually continues up to 6 months.

lovehandles

We will invite you again to our clinics to record your results and follow up. We will make the measurements and take the after photos for your love handles coolsculpting results. The average fat loss on love handles after 1 coolsculpting session is between 25-30%

If you would like to have more information about coolsculpting on love handles or other parts of your body, you can book a free consultation now!

Which facial treatment to choose? Hydrafacial Vs. Chemical Peels

Why do we need a facial?

We all want to have glamorous skin. But what determines a great skin? An even skin tone, the regular skin texture, well-hydrated complexion, no noticeable pores, no marks, no spots…

Did you know our skin constantly renews itself.

skin anatomyhydrafacial or chemical peel

The new skin cells are made on the lower layers of the epidermis. Within 4 weeks, these new skin cells move to the surface of the skin. And old skin constantly sheds itself to leave the top layer to the fresh new skin cells.

However, by the time we age, the skin renewal gets slower. Our diet and daily habits also affect the skin renewal process. For example smoking, alcohol, nutrition-poor diet, and not getting enough sleep slow down the metabolism and the cell turnover.

Facial treatments clean, exfoliate, tone, nourish and hydrate the skin. And they provide the extra help that your skin needs to renew, glow and remain healthy.

There are many facials treatment options, but not every facial is for everyone. Some facials are very harsh on the skin and not suitable for some skin types; such as some chemical peels or some dermabrasion treatments. But there are also other facial treatments which are suitable for all skin types such as Hydrafacial.

Hydrafacial is a world recognised skin treatment which clears, exfoliates and hydrates your skin without the downtime and side effects.

On this article, we will compare the Hydrafacial treatment with other chemical facial treatments. If you are looking to have a facial but don’t know what is the best option for you, this guide may help you.

What is a facial?

A facial is the basic skin treatment which helps skin to clear and regenerate by cleaning, exfoliating and hydrating. The main effect of a facial is the peeling. This is when the top layer of the skin is exfoliated by (mostly) chemical ingredients. It creates controlled damage on the skin and promotes the body’s natural healing response.

When we say facial, we use it as an umbrella term for skincare treatments that rejuvenates, renews, and helps with many skin conditions. And chemical peels are the most common form of the facial.

hydrafacial or chemical peel

Hydrafacial vs regular facial

In the olden days, doctors used to look at one’s skin and determine their health condition.

Today we also know we can use our skin like a map to our health. From the touch of your skin, you can understand if your body is hydrated or not. From where acne occurs on your face, you can determine some health conditions.  But today with the help of modern science and dermatology, we have a better health system to care ourselves and secret weapons to perfect our skin.

As living organisms, our bodies regenerate every day. As a daily work. Then why don’t we always look like in our 20s if our bodies keep renewing itself? Because the regeneration always starts from the most needed area.

The full renewal of your skin takes years. And during this time we get exposed to many internal and external elements which are affecting our skin negatively. Such as stress, bad eating habits, drinking and smoking etc.

Have you ever wondered how do you keep the same wrinkles for years around your eyes or mouth, but when you cut your skin by mistake, it fixes itself perfectly in a week or two?

It is because the body always gives priority and its primary attention to the wounds. Which is the survival instinct.

Most of the facial treatments, create small wounds to the skin to promote the renewal process. These wounds are usually so small to see or for any negative effect. But your body feels the need to work on the wound and regenerates the skin on the area. It treats the controlled damage on your skin as a wound. And wakes up the healing organisms on the area. Once the skin is renewed, it looks much younger and smoother than before.

How do chemical peels work?

Chemical peels strip off the top layer of the skin. While your body is already working on the skin renewal, now it starts doing the cell turnover much faster to make sure the skin can continue its duty of protection. The chemical peels leave your skin thinner than before. So your skin is encouraged to generate more fresh skin cells within the natural process.

There are 3 types of chemical peels, which are separated by their power and intensity.

  • Superficial peels; only work on the very top layer of the skin. They are applied and left only for a few minutes. Regular application is needed. There is usually little to no downtime. Very mild results.
  • Medium peels are stronger than superficial peels. They penetrate the top and mid-layer of the skin. The treatment needs to be repeated in every couple of months (depending on the skin type and condition). The downtime is usually a few days as the controlled damage is higher than superficial peels and it takes longer time to heal.
  • Deep peels are the strongest peels. As they affect the deep layer of the skin, a topical anaesthetic cream is usually required. Mostly preferred for severe skin conditions or pigmentation. Swelling and redness can last up to a couple of weeks. It has long-lasting effects so usually not need to be repeated.

Is Hydrafacial different than a regular facial?

Hydrafacial is much more than just a facial. It still gives your skin the peeling effect as it exfoliates your skin and promotes the cell turnover, but it also clears the pores, hydrates and much more.

If we were to compare hydrafacial with chemical peels in terms of its peeling effect; we could place it between superficial and medium peels.

As HydraFacial clears the skin and pores, it is much deeper than any artificial and some medium peels. But unlike chemical peels, it doesn’t have any downtime. As there is no deep damage applied to the skin. It only clears up the dead skin cells on the top layer of the skin – like a superficial peel. And also clears the pores off – which is actually deeper than more medium chemical peel- but without the damaging effect.

Is hydrafacial a chemical peel?

At the process, Hydrafacial treatment uses some chemical ingredients. Which can cause for it to be confused as a chemical peel. But, Hydrafacial is not a chemical peel.

Firstly, unlike chemical peels, Hydrafacial is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment. Hydrafacial and chemical peels both exfoliate your skin but unlike chemical peels, Hydrafacial doesn’t cause any skin damage. Plus it gives Hydrating benefit which cannot be gained from chemical peels.

Is hydrafacial better than regular facial?

Which facial treatment you may need depends on your skin type, skin conditions and skin goals. Hydrafacial is great for subtle changes on your skin.

Hydrafacial is one of our most popular treatments which is suitable for all skin types and most skin conditions.

Our clients prefer Hydrafacial for a deep cleanse, refreshed and youthful look. The treatment is highly effective on

and much more.

If you are looking for a regular skin purifying without any downtime and side effects, then Hydrafacial may be the best option for you. It doesn’t only clears your skin but also hydrates, balances and calms it. And most importantly -unlike most other facials- with the led therapy at the end of the 6 step procedure, Hydrafacial leaves your skin more defending to acne and blemishes.

However, if you are suffering from severe pigmentation or acne scars, we would recommend a stronger facial, which should always be decided after your consultation with skin experts.

What chemicals used in hydrafacial vs chemical peels

On Hydrafacial exfoliation, acids such as glycolic and salicylic are used.

Glycolic acid is a mild ingredient used in many skin care products. It is found in some sugar crops and is water-soluble – which helps your skin to benefit from the Hydrafacial treatment. It removes the very outer layer of dead skin without causing any damage. Leaves you with refreshed and brighter skin.

Salicylic acid is a type of beta-hydroxy acid, with antibacterial properties. It is widely used on many skincare products. Salicylic acid dissolves the debris and fragments collected in the skin pores (Which mainly causes the acne other skin imperfections). Once the dirt on the skin is dissolved by the salicylic acid, the hydra vacuum can then clean inside the pores.

The main ingredients of the chemical peels differ. Some chemical peels use fruit acids like citric acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, malic acid and tartaric acid. And some chemical peels use alpha-hydroxy acids.

The main difference between the Hydrafacial and chemical peels is usually; while chemical peels use acids to work on and peel off the top layer of the skin with strong ingredients, Hydrafacial uses specific acids that will work on the dirt, sebum and the dead skin cells with rather milder elements.

hydrafacial or chemical peel

hydrafacial vs chemical peel for acne

Acne forms from the bacteria accumulation on the pores. The bacteria mixes with the dirt, dust and the pollution as well as the excess sebum oil on the skin and clogs the pores on the skin. There are different types of acne formation such as blackheads, whiteheads, pustules etc. the main difference between the acne types is the form of the pus created by the bacteria, dirt and sebum.

Some acne types can be easily cleared off by hydrafacial. Such as blackheads and whiteheads. The hydra suction clears off the pores while exfoliating the top layer of your skin and leaves you with a clean and refreshed look.

hydrafacial or chemical peel

On the other hand, some acne formations such as nodules, cannot be treated with Hydrafacial. These acne types are formed on the middle layer of the skin and usually don’t open to the surface with the pores. Hence, Hydrafacial cannot reach them.

Some chemical peels are great at clearing skin and stripping off. And they can be used to treat many acne formations. However many of them would be insufficient to clear some forms of acne as well; such as nodules and cysts.

If you are unsure of which skin treatment is the most suitable for your acne condition, you can further read our guide.

how long does hydrafacial vs chemical peel last

The glowing and hydrating effects of Hydrafacial usually last 5-7 days and depending on your skin type; often longer. We usually recommend the repeat treatment in every 4-6 weeks to give your skin a deep cleansing and glow. However, this depends on your skin type, condition and lifestyle.

With chemical peels, the results depend on the type of the peel. The peeling time and the optimum results usually depend on the strength of the chemical peel.

  • Superficial peels; It is usually little to no downtime. You can repeat the treatment every 4-6 weeks.
  • Medium peels; may take a few days to fully peel and they are usually recommended to have in every 6 months.
  • Deep peels; on the other hand, may take 1-2 weeks to peel completely. But depending on your skin condition, the repeat of the treatment is not usually necessary.

hydrafacial or chemical peel

how much hydrafacial vs chemical peel cost

The price of Hydrafacial treatment depends on the steps and what it includes. At some London clinics, you can have Hydrafacial treatments for cheaper but they will be the shorter treatments which don’t include all steps. At Premier Laser and Skin clinics we offer 6 steps HydraFacial which is the optimum HydraFacial treatment with prices starting from 126. We also have special offers on skincare treatments you can benefit from.

Prices of chemical peels depending on the treatment. They differ from 80 to 950.

Combining skin treatments

Every skin has different needs and a different threshold. Hence there is no one size fits all approach when it comes to skincare. Your skin can benefit from combining different skin care treatments. But you should always speak to a skin professional before taking any steps.

Before getting your first ever laser hair removal treatment on any areas of your body, you need to have a full consultation and a patch test.

During your consultation, our laser experts listen to your needs and goals. Ask you questions about your background, medical condition and lifestyle.

Hair growth explained

The growth and strength of the hair follicles are mainly determined by genetics. Your clinician will explain to you the whole process and will give you an estimated number of sessions you would need to attend. They will explain the hair growth cycles, how laser works, the technology, overall process, pricing and payment options, most suitable time for you to start your treatment and why you are in the most capable hands at Premier Laser & Skin.

What is a laser hair removal patch test?

If your consultation determines that you are a suitable candidate for laser hair removal, and if you’re not currently tanned, your clinician will perform a patch test. Patch tests must take place at least 24hrs before your first session. We apply the laser to a small part of the target area and monitor.

Do I still need a patch test if I’ve had one before?

Please note that even if you had laser hair removal on some other areas of your body, for each and every new area, we need to perform a new patch test.

This is because your skin may be more sensitive in some areas, and to prevent any possible side effects. Also, even if you had laser treatment somewhere else before, we still need to make a patch test, as the technology, circumstances, and your condition might be changed since then. If your skin is suitable for laser treatment, we will create your personal treatment plan and book you in for your first laser appointment.

How to get ready for your laser treatment

For the best results and most comfortable treatment, it is important to follow your practitioners advice. This way you can get ready for your laser treatment in the best way possible.

Your practitioner will advise you to:

  • Avoid any tanning. Suntan, fake tan and sunbeds are equally dangerous if you allow your skin to tan before your laser treatment or apply a fake tan. If your skin is tanned, the laser can burn the surface. If all traces of your fake tan are not removed this also can put you at risk.
  • Leave at least 4 weeks before getting you laser treatment if your skin is tanned.
  • Avoid waxing or plucking before laser hair removal. As these options change the hair growth cycle, the laser will not be able to catch the hair follicles on the right stage and it will not be able to reduce the hair.
  • Do not bleach your hair. The darker the hair follicles, it is easier for the laser to see them
  • Clean the treatment area before your session. Don’t use any cosmetic creams before your session. You can ask for sanitary towels from your practitioner at the beginning of your session to clean the area as well.
  •  Make sure that you have between 4-6 weeks full hair growth before your first session.
  • Shave 24 hours before your laser appointment. NOT on the treatment day. To read more about how to shave correctly, you can visit our blog
  • Choose a non-perfumed shaving/ cleansing product for your bikini area. Otherwise, it might cause irritations.
  • Use a pH-balanced feminine cleanser wash afterwards to make sure all the shaving foam has been removed. For more tips on how to shave click here
  • Gently exfoliate your bikini area 3-4 days before your session. Don’t leave it to the last day or after you shaved. Otherwise, it might irritate your skin.
  • Make sure all the excess hair from the labia and perianal area has been removed
  • Wear loose clothes for your treatment. Make sure your underwear is not too tight.
  • Prefer cotton underwear
  • Avoid caffeine. It can increase your sensitivity.
  • If you have a low pain threshold, you can take a mild pain reliever before your session (not Ibuprofen)
  • Some of our clients find chewing gum during the treatment helpful
  • Try to schedule the treatment the week before of the week after your period
  • Most importantly, relax, you’re in safe hands.

Treatment day arrives!

On the day of your treatment, it is important that you are at the clinic on time so your session can be completed on time.

Your clinician will welcome you to the treatment room. Here you will have full privacy whilst getting ready for your session.

Undressing

You will need to undress the parts that you are having the laser treatment at. Your clinician will provide you with towels to you can cover yourself where and when necessary.

If you are having laser treatment on more than one area, or the full-body, you might prefer to get undress partially for each area for more comfort.

Your clinician will check if the growth of hair is suitable for the treatment. And then clean the treatment area.

Markings with a white pen

They will mark the area with a white pen to make sure no parts are missed. Cover up the spots and beauty marks to prevent any negative effects. And if you have any tattoos, they will cover the sides so the laser doesn’t get over it.

Numbing cream, if required

Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. Before your treatment, you will also be offered numbing cream. But even if you don’t want to use it, you will still be fine. As our laser experts have many years of experience and they know how to make you feel most comfortable.

Goggles

Before starting the treatment, you will be asked to wear special goggles to protect your eyes. You can also lie back and close your eyes if you prefer. It is important that you never look at the laser with the naked eye as it is highly dangerous.

Making sure you are comfortable

Your clinician may stop or pause during your treatment to make sure you are comfortable. They can use the cold air function of the laser to give your skin the extra soothing help before and after treating the area. If you have sensitive skin, they make sure to treat the area in small patches to make the treatment go easier.

They regularly clean the area with a sanitised napkin in every couple of minutes.

Correct settings

Your clinician may change the settings of the machine during your treatment. This is to adapt the best power and consistency to the area treated. Your expert will make sure to treat the area with the most appropriate and necessary settings. Which can differ from area to area due to the number of sessions completed, amount of hair follicles or the sensitivity of the skin.

Your feedback is important

Your clinician may also need your help in some areas. They might ask you to stay in a specific position or help them out whilst treating some areas for example during the perianal.

You can always ask all your questions to your clinicians during the treatment. They will make sure you are as comfortable and ready as possible.

Respecting your privacy

While having your laser treatment, your clinician will always respect your privacy. Even when you are having laser treatment on your bikini area, you will always be covered with towels. And your practitioner will only uncover the areas that are being treated at the time.

Immediately after and aloe vera gel

After your treatment, they will apply aloe Vera gel to the treated areas. Or if you prefer to apply yourself they will provide you with the gel.

They will ask how you are feeling and how was your session. Will always make sure you were pleased with your session and you don’t have any discomfort afterwards. And will give you your privacy to get clothed on.

Monitoring progress

Your clinician will also take photos of the treatment areas to follow and record the process. Don’t worry these images are for treatment purposes only and they won’t be published or shared anywhere without your consent.

After recording your treatment details, they will assist you in the reception area to book your next appointment. And advice on the aftercare.

prepare for laser

How does laser feel

The sensations of the laser vary from person to person and the treatment area. While some experience a slight sting, some people don’t even feel the laser unless they hear its beeping sound.

Different factors affect how the laser would feel on the sensitive skin. Such as hair colour, density, skin type and pain threshold. But you can make sure that the feeling of laser decreases after each treatment as the hair follicles get finer and lighter, and your body is getting used to the feeling over time.

Laser cooling technology

To minimise the sensation, our lasers work with a built-in cooling system. This is to reduce the possible pain from the laser. Some clients may feel cold during the treatment. In that case, please let your practitioner know and they will take small breaks to make you feel more comfortable.

Laser hair removal aftercare

Laser only targets the hair follicle and leaves the surrounding skin unharmed. But there are still some rules you would need to follow to not to harm your skin and to keep your comfort levels to the maximum.

Right after your session, your clinician will apply to the treatment area some Aloe Vera gel.

after laser

First 24 hours

It is recommended you to keep using the gel for the following 2-3 days. Make sure to use it as much as necessary.

After your session, you might experience some redness. It should go away within 24 hours to a few days.

For comfort purposes, you can put an icepack covered with a clean cloth on your skin.

  • Avoid sunlight – even if it is not very likely to do anyway.
  • Prevent the use of any lubricants or chemical products for 24 hours.
  • Avoid hot showers, baths and saunas.

It usually takes 4-6 weeks for the hair follicles to get back to the appropriate stage for your next laser treatment. Tell your clinician with any holidays you are planning to attend, any sun exposure you had or may have, and your period where it is relevant. At Premier Laser & Skin clinics we use the latest medical degree lasers for the best results and the highest comfort. All our clinicians are highly experienced in the field. So, you can be sure that you are in safe hands.

Does a Hydrafacial remove Blackheads?

Blackheads are a type of acne. They appear from blocked hair follicles and pores. They are a mild type of acne and mainly caused by pollution, dirt, and oil on the skin. Hydrafacial clears up the pores. The patented vortex vacuum suction removes dirt and bacteria. It empties the dirt in pores and gets rid of blackheads.

Why you shouldn’t squeeze your blackheads

Many people squeeze their blackheads to get rid of them. But blackheads don’t usually respond to squeezing. There is not much movement from under the skin’s surface and it is harder to get a grip or good squeeze them out. You really need micro equipment to squeeze the blackhead acne, like tweezers or acne poppers. Pushing and squeezing with nails or metal acne poppers may damage the skin. Plus spread the under skin bacteria and acne formation over a wider area.

Also, most fingertips are a breeding ground for bacteria so you could be causing more problems than solving.

Blackhead removal strips

Blackhead removal strips are not as effective as a Hydrafacial either. When you apply them wet and leave to dry, the strips stick on the top layer of your skin. When taking it off, it will only grab the top layer of the blackheads and leave most of the bacteria, sebum and oil behind. But it will scrape off the top layer of your skin. Exfoliation is good for your skin. However only when it is done evenly and safely.

The blackhead strips are usually 2-4 inch wide. And they only exfoliate certain areas on the skin. which can cause your skin to look uneven. Lastly, the blackheads are usually formed on the nose and chin areas. Which are the hardest places to apply the blackhead strips. The strips are very thick for the crease and they usually don’t sit properly on the top of the nostrils or the chin crease.

HydrafacialHydrafacial is the most effective treatment for blackheads

Hydrafacial provides an even and deep skin cleanse. It clears off the pores fully. Reaches the hardest areas and gives you the best results for blackheads. You can see our Hydrafacial before and after photos here.

hydrafacial acne

hydrafacial benefits for acne

Hydrafacial clears the built-up sebum, oil and dirt on the skin which are the main causes of acne formation.

The cleansing and detoxifying parts get rid of the dirt and bacteria, emptying the congested pores. Exfoliation gets rid of the dead skin.

hydrafacial acne scars

hydrafacial benefits for acne scars

Hydrafacial provides skin exfoliation which “helps” getting rid of the acne scars. (but for scar removal, there are better treatments like Dermapen or peels).

Acne scars form when acne formation, the bacteria and the pus, penetrates a large area on the dermis (the bottom part of the skin).

When you empty the pus (which consists of dirt, oil and dead white blood cells) a hole remains where it previously was.

Also when the pus forms, it affects the skin around it. Which also causes the pigmentation.

This is where the acne scars come from.

The sebum slowly toxifying and squeezing the skin around and making it look bad.

The exfoliation factor of Hydrafacial benefits the appearance of acne scars but for the removal consider treatments mentioned earlier.

hydrafacial dry skin

hydrafacial benefits for dry skin

Hydrafacial will hydrate your skin. It is full of powerful antioxidants. The painless vortex suction clears out pores and overall skin. It simultaneously delivers hydrating antioxidant skin solutions and boosts the hydration of the skin, refreshing the dull skin.

hydrafacial melasma

hydrafacial benefits for melasma

Hydrafacial improves skin hydration and glowing effect as well as clearing the skin. It reduces the size of the pores, improves the appearance of the wrinkles and skin quality.

But it is not for proper pigmentation treatment. However, it does give an exfoliation effect and clears the skin. The appearance of melasma may reduce. (Although this is not the best treatment for it)

Staying Indoors Effects On Your Skin

Why Staying indoors is affecting your skin health

Think of your skin as a mirror. It reflects everything about your life.

Your ups

Your downs

Your good  (and bad!)  daily routines and habits.

Not drinking enough water?…..you will see it on your skin.

Not eating a healthy balanced diet, stressed or lacking sleep?…..your skin will give you away.

Fixing your skin problems starts with the basics.

You are what you eat

healthy eating for good skin

You have heard it a million times before, but you really are what you eat.

During the lockdown, we have all put a few extra pounds on. (Except if you’ve put yourself into a lockdown Bootcamp).

Not having our regular daily activities, such as doing the school run, working, commuting, gym or yoga classes has thrown our normal routine out the window.

Meal times don’t have to be at the exact time anymore. Kids can be in bed an hour later than usual. Not a big problem. You too can have your dinner a bit later.

Bad habits like snacking on the wrong things have increased for many as those good habits built up over time have taken a hit with the new normal.

The constant snacking to escape from boredom along with those evening treats to keep your spirits up. A couple of bars of chocolate or the second glass of wine.

These unnatural eating habits affect your skin’s appearance and health.

More junk food means more breakouts…

More fatty snacks mean more acne…

stress effects on skin

Stress is your biggest enemy on skin health

Our daily lives are stressful enough.

The everyday chaos, morning news, kids’ school, work, bills…

On top of that we are now worried about our loved ones’ health and safety. Then there is the uncertainty about the future and the new normal we are all facing.

Stress is one of the biggest enemies of your skin.

Stress causes changes in the brain and it affects all your body including your skin. While your body feels under pressure and feeling anxiety, it produces more cortisol which is also known as the ‘ stress hormone’. And it causes more oil and sebum on your skin. Leaving you with spots, rash, and other skin problems.

Our ways of fighting stress also might affect our skin health and appearance. While under stress, many people eat or drink more and some might also pick at their skin without even realising it. Constant picking at your skin may cause irritations and skin problems.

How often do you get fresh air?

Spending most of our times indoors means we are lacking fresh air and sunshine which our bodies are in constant need of, taking away what our bodies have been used to for thousands of years.

Regardless of the season, the air inside is usually drier than the air outside. The heaters in the wintertime and the cool air conditioning in the summer only gets the current air circulated. If you are not constantly airing your home, the carbon-heavy air indoors will get drier and may start irritating your skin.

Yes, staying indoors has its benefits. Some of them are also for your skin. For example, avoiding skin-damaging pollutants and photo-ageing UV exposure.

However, lacking Vitamin D from the sun and missing the health benefits of fresh air on your skin might come at a cost.

Getting away from your skin beauty routines

They say one should look good for themselves not for others. But let’s be honest. None of us spends 20 minutes in the morning getting our hair and makeup done to work from home.

Spending most of your time at home might make you abandon your daily skincare routines as well. You may feel like there isn’t a reason for you to drag yourself in front of the mirror.

For example, if your evening beauty routine starts with taking your make up off, you might find it a bit difficult to find the motivation to put your toner on now.

Or you can think now that you are not going out and seeing other people as often, you don’t need to have face mask twice a week.

When your daily actions change, they become habits. And when your beauty habits change, your skin may not be as spotless anymore.

If visiting a beauty clinic is part of your skin health routine you can’t pop out for a quick hydrfacial or dermapen to keep your skin glowing which makes things difficult.

skin care

Negative effects of more screen time on your skin

Have your screen times increased rapidly since the beginning of the lockdown?

Many of us are working in front of laptops constantly. Changing social connections is also affecting our lives. Spending time with friends means even more looking at your screen. Free time entertainment… looking at your screen. Even having a date might be through looking at your screen nowadays!

But did you know that every second you are spending on your phone or laptops, your skin gets exposed to blue light. This high energy visible light, causes elastin and collagen damage on your skin, leading to pigment changes and photo-ageing.

Our phones are probably one of the most unsanitised belongings we have. We take them everywhere. They are always in our hands even when nature calls we can’t put them down ! We are sure not you! But some people!

While our phones are a public care home for bacteria, keeping it close to our face for hours every day can unsurprisingly cause oil glands and spots on the skin.

cleaning skin

Over cleaning your skin

Since the earlier days of the pandemic, we have been taking extra care of our personal hygiene. Washing our hands more than ever, cleaning and showering more often; we can disrupt the pH levels of our skin. With constant soap and sanitiser use, our skin can also get dry and patchy.

Also not wearing any makeup or being in public as much, we might touch or pick our hands more than usual – while no one is watching! This can cause our skin to get inflamed, and increase acne and spots.

How to protect your skin in lockdown

We’ve gathered a handy list for you to follow for healthier skin while spending more time indoors.

eating healthy for your skin

Eat healthy for your skin

It is tempting to finish the pack of crisps in front of the telly. But your skin may not appreciate it.

Make sure to follow a healthy diet. Preferably away from junk food and unhealthy snacks.

Sugar also affects your skin’s ageing process.

Dairy products also are known to promote acne. Keeping your milk or cheese consumption to a minimum will help you to have clean skin.

fresh air for your skin

Get fresh air for your skin health

For a healthy body, mind, and skin we all need fresh air!

Now that we are not spending much time outside, you should at least air your house often!

Luckily with the warmer weather, we don’t need the heating on at home.  Heaters dry up the air and leave your skin dehydrated.

If you would still need to put the heating on, place a damp towel on your heater. This way you can decrease the dryness of the air inside. To learn more about how you can help your dry skin with little adjustments at home read our previous blog

Create a new daily skincare routine

Your old daily skincare routine should be tweaked to reflect the new normal you find yourself in. Creating a regular beauty regimen will help you maintain healthy skincare.

As we are mainly at home, most of us don’t wear any makeup at all! Which is a great opportunity for our skin to have a break and recharge.

You can create a new skincare regimen and challenge yourself to follow it every day!

If you need help to create your new skincare regimen, our experts are always happy to help! Book your free e-consultation with our skin experts.

Moisturise your skin after every wash

Yes, we all want to make sure those germs and viruses keep away from us! But over-washing your hands or body may cause dryness and cracks. And as you can imagine, viruses can enter your body from the cracks on your skin much easier.

Use a rich moisturiser after every wash to make sure you protect your skin from dryness caused by the acid in soap.

Applying moisturiser while your skin is still damp, increases the absorption.

When bathing or washing your face, you can choose a milder soap.

And use cold water while washing your face. If washing your face with cold water is not comfortable, try lukewarm, but make sure to prevent using hot water washing your face as it causes dryness on our skin.

at home skincare

Clean your phone regularly

Wiping down your phone regularly with an antibacterial wipe will dramatically decrease the amount of bacteria your face is being exposed to.

Wearing headphones or using your phone hands-free is also a great option.

And if you are working from home on a computer, make sure to clean your keyboard and headsets regularly. Spending most of your day touching to these gadgets causes unwanted lifeforms to create habitats on them.

spf

Apply SPF regularly

If you are sitting next to your window while working, the sun’s rays may not burn your skin. But it will definitely affect premature ageing.

Using SPF when you are getting exposed to the sun, is crucial.

When you go out for your daily exercise, make sure to apply a higher protection SPF.

Follow homemade skincare

Spending more time at home means spending more time in the kitchen. Why not try a new recipe for your skin too?

Our skincare experts shared their homemade face masks and beauty secrets. You can choose from recipes to moisturise, cleanse, brighten, or getting rid of acne.

Give your skin a good exfoliation

At our clinics, before each skin treatment, we recommend a good exfoliation.

It gets rid of the dirt and opens the way for your skin masks, moisturisers or other beauty products to penetrate your skin more deeply. Your skin can benefit more from your treatment and skincare products.

Being indoors more than ever now, your skin is less exposed to pollution, which is fantastic! But a good exfoliation will also get rid of the other external dust and dirt your skin is open to and oil and sebum your skin produces.

We hope that our recommendations help you with your skincare during this time.
