Happy Halloween with Dermapen Vampire Facial Needling

Halloween is just around the corner. It is time to see some blood!

If you haven’t try dermapen microneedling before, this is the best time for it!

What is Dermapen microneedling and why does it make me bleed?

As living mechanisms, our bodies always work to repair any problems. Think about when you get a cut or a bruise. Your body will use all its power to fix the problem. Stop the bleeding, cover the cut and polish the surface.
But that is not all! It also keeps renewing itself to make sure all our organs are working perfectly, they are fresh and young and working to full potential.

As our largest organ, skin also takes lots of time to fix and renew constantly. This renewal is done with some helpful enzymes such as collagen.

However, by the time we age, our metabolism gets slower with the routine renewals. Hence we start to get wrinkles and fine lines on our skin. And some scars don’t get fixed as quick or perfect as it used to.

It’s not because your body doesn’t want to keep you as refreshed as before, but now it has more things it needs to fight against such as stress, bad eating habits, pollution and so on.

But we don’t have to just accept this and go on with our lives. We can actually trick our bodies to bring back its glory days!

How? By causing artificial scars to make our skin work on.

When our skin sees a cut or a scar, it gives special attention to the area to fix the problem. And even after fixing it, our skin makes sure to keep the helpful enzyme production to the maximum on the area for a good while.

How does Dermapen Microneedling work?

Dermapen microneedling creates tiny artificial scars on the top layer of your skin. These scars are created with very thin needles penetrating the skin very quickly and in a controlled manner.

Even though these artificial scars are not really scars and won’t cause any problems on your skin, your metabolism considers it as a threat and provides extra resources to fix the problem.

Although as we said there is not really a problem!

So your skin overcorrects the area and leaves you with a better looking and younger appearance.

In a nutshell, dermapen tricks your skin to wake up and work like it used to!
So much for tricks and treats, right?

If you would like to learn more about the science behind it and see if your skin is suitable for dermapen treatment, book a FREE consultation now and speak to one of our skin experts.

How much blood is there going to be after Dermapen treatment?

Dermapen microneedling has different depth and speed settings that will be arranged by your practitioner depending on your skin type and condition.

While 0.25mm depth on lower speed will mainly cause a little redness on your skin, 2.5mm will probably cause some bleeding.

But anything for beauty, right?

Do not worry! As we previously mentioned, the treatment is completely safe and your experts will be only using the appropriate settings on your skin. And then again the traumas created on our skin are not actual scars.

It is normal to have some discomfort after your treatment but if you experience any side effects or constant discomfort, you can contact your clinic and your experts will further examine your skin and make sure you reach your skin goals in the most comfortable way.

The whole dermapen process

Before starting your dermapen treatment, your clinician will give you a full consultation and ask you about your main skin concerns. They will also explain to you the whole process and answer any of your questions.

Dermapen microneedling process takes around 30-45 mins. As it is a relatively painful treatment, your clinician will offer you some numbing cream before the treatment.

If you prefer to have numbing cream, you will definitely have a much comfortable treatment and won’t feel anything.

If you skip the numbing cream, dermapen can promote a better blood flow however the treatment can be a bit uncomfortable.

If you prefer to have the numbing cream, you will be asked to wait for 30 mins for the cream to show its full effect. Meanwhile, you can relax in the treatment room.

After 30 mins your clinician will come to the room and check your skin on different areas to make sure the cream was effective in all areas. If you have thicker skin, they might wait further 10 mins to better penetration.

After clearing the cream off of our skin, your clinician will clean your face with alcohol-based solutions. This is to protect your skin from any bacterias entering during the treatment while the needles are penetrating your skin.

After cleaning the whole face, they will apply the special gel and start the procedure. The microneedling tips are for single use. And your clinician will open yours from its new package whilst showing you.

During your treatment, your clinician will constantly ask you how you are feeling to make sure you are comfortable.

They will go through all the areas multiple times on different angles and movements for the best results with the dermapen. Also, during the treatment, your practitioner can change the depth and the speed of the dermapen depending on the facial area. Some areas on our face have thinner skin and can only tolerate lighter settings, or doesn’t need deep penetration. Or if there are any specific scars or imperfections, your clinician can specifically focus on those areas for maximum benefit.

After your treatment, they will apply Hyaluronic serum on the face to improve the treatment effects with higher absorption. After the serum, they will apply a special face mask where you can only get in the clinic with professional treatments. This mask will hydrate your skin and promote the recovery.

After the mask, your clinician will apply SPF to your skin and inform you about the aftercare.

Your skin might look a little red for 2-3 days after the day depending on the severity of your treatment. But once the redness is gone, you will see the amazing results on your skin.

Award Winning Coolsculpting

When it comes to beauty, nothing can beat the combination of technology and experience.

At Premier Laser & Skin we take great pride with our latest technology machines and highly experienced clinicians.

Coolsculpting is one of our most popular treatments. It is the world’s number 1 fat freezing technology. Only with 35 minutes of treatments, you can get rid of up to 35% fat on your body with no downtime.

coolsculpting London

Coolsculpting is the only FDA approved fat freezing technology with little to non-side effects. It has been preferred by many of our clients who would like to feel more comfortable in their bodies. Whether it is with their dresses or sunbathing on the beach.

During the coolsculpting treatment, special applicators are located on your body to the targeted areas. Each applicator runs for 35 minutes of its freezing effect. And then the treatment areas are massaged.

Locating the coolsculpting applicators would differ from person to person.

coolsculpting London

The fact that coolsculpting targets the specific area, different sized applicators can be used on different parts of the body. And for the best results comes from the correct placing of the applicators. This is due to everyone’s body shape and fat pockets being different. There are multiple sizes of coolsculpting applicators. And for the correct placement of the applicator and an affective treatment; high experience is required.

coolsculpting London

The other most important part of the treatment is the intense massage that your practitioner will perform on the treatment area after the fat freezing.

This massaging will break the dead fat cells that have been frozen by the applicators. After breaking the fat cells, your body will get rid of them by natural ways. If the massage is not performed correctly, your treatment may not be as effective.

At Premier Laser & Skin, all our practitioners are highly experienced in their fields. With at least 3 years of industry experience, they also go through regular training to keep their knowledge fresh and to be up to date with the latest industry improvements.

How To Get Rid Of Love Handles

Love handles, muffin tops, baby fat, potbelly… No matter which name you use, the excess fat on flanks doesn’t sound nice.

Our bodies store the extra fat for energy. Where it is stored depends on genetics and lifestyle. When some people gain weight, the fat is stored in an equal manner to the whole body. Abdomen, arms, hips, flanks, and even face.

But for some people, excess fat is stored in some particular areas of the body. For example, many women store the extra pounds either on their abdomen or on their hips.

lovehandles

There are many genetic and hormonal reasons behind why we are storing our fats in these areas. For example, women having wider hips than men and storing fat around the hips actually helps while carrying a baby.

And we also know the testosterone hormone is causing fat bulges on the arms. That’s why men usually have wider arms comparing to women. And by the time women age, with the increase of the testosterone hormone on their body, they also start storing fat on their arms as well.

But with love handles, it is not entirely genetic or hormonal.

Of course, if you are genetically more prone to store fat on your belly and flanks, you are most likely to have wider love handles. But it is also directly connected to your lifestyle.

lovehandles

Why do we have love handles?

90s fashion introduced us to low waist trousers. Which, by the most classic fashion designers, is considered as bringing the end of the hourglass figure for women.

Our bodies can be shaped very easily. Using low waisted clothes for years also started to shape our bodies as well. This new fashion creating pressure just under our abdomen and flanks made a visible cut on our waist area. Just like a toothpaste tube, when most of us gain weight, we keep the belt-line just under our tummies. And the excess fat stores on the top of it.

This extra fat on the flanks is called love handles or if it joined forces with the tummy fat, you have a proper muffin top.

So when we are dieting and exercising to get rid of the excess fat, we might lose significant weigh. But because the fat bulges on these areas actually belonged to a bigger area, and with the fashion or other lifestyle choices they have gathered in a more specific smaller area, we see a smaller change here, or we get stuck with some stubborn fat pockets.

lovehandles

How to get rid of love handles?

Coolsculpting is a highly effective fat reduction treatment. It is not a weight-loss method. But it is to fight with specific problem areas and the fat bulges. It freezes the excess fat cells and breaks them. Then the dead fat cells leave the body in natural ways.

Coolsculpting is applied to the body with applicators. It can be performed in different areas of the body. And to reach many areas, it is designed with different size applicators.

Coolsculpting on love handles are usually applied with 2 regular size applicators, one on each side of the body. The coolsculpting applicators can be applied on both sides of the body at the same time. This way your treatment time will be reduced by half and you can get back to your daily life right after your treatment.

During your coolsculpting treatment love handles, the machines are secured with a special band and we also use body pillows for extra comfort.

The coolsculpting treatment takes as little as 35 minutes on love handles. During your coolsculpting treatment, your clinician will offer you drinks and you can spend your time on your phone, catch up with your series or listen to music.

After your coolsculpting on love handles, your clinician will make an intense massage to both areas. This will help the fat cells to break easier and will help increase the fat loss percentage.

To increase the effects of your coolsculpting treatment on love handles, you can also make this message to yourself on the following days! Right after your treatment, you can go back to your daily life.

lovehandles

While coming to your coolsculpting appointment for love handles area, we would recommend wearing some loose clothing. If the weather allows, you might want to prefer a loose dress to help you with comfort. If not, prefer to wear loose waisted trousers rather than tight ones.

And make sure your underwear is not tight and uncomfortable.

After the coolsculpting treatment, your love handles can get swollen and can feel some discomfort. This is absolutely normal. It will go away in a week.

After having coolsculpting on your love handles, you can start seeing the results in 1 month. Our clients usually realise the most significant change around the 3rd month. And the fat loss usually continues up to 6 months.

lovehandles

We will invite you again to our clinics to record your results and follow up. We will make the measurements and take the after photos for your love handles coolsculpting results. The average fat loss on love handles after 1 coolsculpting session is between 25-30%

If you would like to have more information about coolsculpting on love handles or other parts of your body, you can book a free consultation now!

Which facial treatment to choose? Hydrafacial Vs. Chemical Peels

Why do we need a facial?

We all want to have glamorous skin. But what determines a great skin? An even skin tone, the regular skin texture, well-hydrated complexion, no noticeable pores, no marks, no spots…

Did you know our skin constantly renews itself.

skin anatomyhydrafacial or chemical peel

The new skin cells are made on the lower layers of the epidermis. Within 4 weeks, these new skin cells move to the surface of the skin. And old skin constantly sheds itself to leave the top layer to the fresh new skin cells.

However, by the time we age, the skin renewal gets slower. Our diet and daily habits also affect the skin renewal process. For example smoking, alcohol, nutrition-poor diet, and not getting enough sleep slow down the metabolism and the cell turnover.

Facial treatments clean, exfoliate, tone, nourish and hydrate the skin. And they provide the extra help that your skin needs to renew, glow and remain healthy.

There are many facials treatment options, but not every facial is for everyone. Some facials are very harsh on the skin and not suitable for some skin types; such as some chemical peels or some dermabrasion treatments. But there are also other facial treatments which are suitable for all skin types such as Hydrafacial.

Hydrafacial is a world recognised skin treatment which clears, exfoliates and hydrates your skin without the downtime and side effects.

On this article, we will compare the Hydrafacial treatment with other chemical facial treatments. If you are looking to have a facial but don’t know what is the best option for you, this guide may help you.

What is a facial?

A facial is the basic skin treatment which helps skin to clear and regenerate by cleaning, exfoliating and hydrating. The main effect of a facial is the peeling. This is when the top layer of the skin is exfoliated by (mostly) chemical ingredients. It creates controlled damage on the skin and promotes the body’s natural healing response.

When we say facial, we use it as an umbrella term for skincare treatments that rejuvenates, renews, and helps with many skin conditions. And chemical peels are the most common form of the facial.

hydrafacial or chemical peel

Hydrafacial vs regular facial

In the olden days, doctors used to look at one’s skin and determine their health condition.

Today we also know we can use our skin like a map to our health. From the touch of your skin, you can understand if your body is hydrated or not. From where acne occurs on your face, you can determine some health conditions.  But today with the help of modern science and dermatology, we have a better health system to care ourselves and secret weapons to perfect our skin.

As living organisms, our bodies regenerate every day. As a daily work. Then why don’t we always look like in our 20s if our bodies keep renewing itself? Because the regeneration always starts from the most needed area.

The full renewal of your skin takes years. And during this time we get exposed to many internal and external elements which are affecting our skin negatively. Such as stress, bad eating habits, drinking and smoking etc.

Have you ever wondered how do you keep the same wrinkles for years around your eyes or mouth, but when you cut your skin by mistake, it fixes itself perfectly in a week or two?

It is because the body always gives priority and its primary attention to the wounds. Which is the survival instinct.

Most of the facial treatments, create small wounds to the skin to promote the renewal process. These wounds are usually so small to see or for any negative effect. But your body feels the need to work on the wound and regenerates the skin on the area. It treats the controlled damage on your skin as a wound. And wakes up the healing organisms on the area. Once the skin is renewed, it looks much younger and smoother than before.

How do chemical peels work?

Chemical peels strip off the top layer of the skin. While your body is already working on the skin renewal, now it starts doing the cell turnover much faster to make sure the skin can continue its duty of protection. The chemical peels leave your skin thinner than before. So your skin is encouraged to generate more fresh skin cells within the natural process.

There are 3 types of chemical peels, which are separated by their power and intensity.

  • Superficial peels; only work on the very top layer of the skin. They are applied and left only for a few minutes. Regular application is needed. There is usually little to no downtime. Very mild results.
  • Medium peels are stronger than superficial peels. They penetrate the top and mid-layer of the skin. The treatment needs to be repeated in every couple of months (depending on the skin type and condition). The downtime is usually a few days as the controlled damage is higher than superficial peels and it takes longer time to heal.
  • Deep peels are the strongest peels. As they affect the deep layer of the skin, a topical anaesthetic cream is usually required. Mostly preferred for severe skin conditions or pigmentation. Swelling and redness can last up to a couple of weeks. It has long-lasting effects so usually not need to be repeated.

Is Hydrafacial different than a regular facial?

Hydrafacial is much more than just a facial. It still gives your skin the peeling effect as it exfoliates your skin and promotes the cell turnover, but it also clears the pores, hydrates and much more.

If we were to compare hydrafacial with chemical peels in terms of its peeling effect; we could place it between superficial and medium peels.

As HydraFacial clears the skin and pores, it is much deeper than any artificial and some medium peels. But unlike chemical peels, it doesn’t have any downtime. As there is no deep damage applied to the skin. It only clears up the dead skin cells on the top layer of the skin – like a superficial peel. And also clears the pores off – which is actually deeper than more medium chemical peel- but without the damaging effect.

Is hydrafacial a chemical peel?

At the process, Hydrafacial treatment uses some chemical ingredients. Which can cause for it to be confused as a chemical peel. But, Hydrafacial is not a chemical peel.

Firstly, unlike chemical peels, Hydrafacial is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment. Hydrafacial and chemical peels both exfoliate your skin but unlike chemical peels, Hydrafacial doesn’t cause any skin damage. Plus it gives Hydrating benefit which cannot be gained from chemical peels.

Is hydrafacial better than regular facial?

Which facial treatment you may need depends on your skin type, skin conditions and skin goals. Hydrafacial is great for subtle changes on your skin.

Hydrafacial is one of our most popular treatments which is suitable for all skin types and most skin conditions.

Our clients prefer Hydrafacial for a deep cleanse, refreshed and youthful look. The treatment is highly effective on

and much more.

If you are looking for a regular skin purifying without any downtime and side effects, then Hydrafacial may be the best option for you. It doesn’t only clears your skin but also hydrates, balances and calms it. And most importantly -unlike most other facials- with the led therapy at the end of the 6 step procedure, Hydrafacial leaves your skin more defending to acne and blemishes.

However, if you are suffering from severe pigmentation or acne scars, we would recommend a stronger facial, which should always be decided after your consultation with skin experts.

What chemicals used in hydrafacial vs chemical peels

On Hydrafacial exfoliation, acids such as glycolic and salicylic are used.

Glycolic acid is a mild ingredient used in many skin care products. It is found in some sugar crops and is water-soluble – which helps your skin to benefit from the Hydrafacial treatment. It removes the very outer layer of dead skin without causing any damage. Leaves you with refreshed and brighter skin.

Salicylic acid is a type of beta-hydroxy acid, with antibacterial properties. It is widely used on many skincare products. Salicylic acid dissolves the debris and fragments collected in the skin pores (Which mainly causes the acne other skin imperfections). Once the dirt on the skin is dissolved by the salicylic acid, the hydra vacuum can then clean inside the pores.

The main ingredients of the chemical peels differ. Some chemical peels use fruit acids like citric acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, malic acid and tartaric acid. And some chemical peels use alpha-hydroxy acids.

The main difference between the Hydrafacial and chemical peels is usually; while chemical peels use acids to work on and peel off the top layer of the skin with strong ingredients, Hydrafacial uses specific acids that will work on the dirt, sebum and the dead skin cells with rather milder elements.

hydrafacial or chemical peel

hydrafacial vs chemical peel for acne

Acne forms from the bacteria accumulation on the pores. The bacteria mixes with the dirt, dust and the pollution as well as the excess sebum oil on the skin and clogs the pores on the skin. There are different types of acne formation such as blackheads, whiteheads, pustules etc. the main difference between the acne types is the form of the pus created by the bacteria, dirt and sebum.

Some acne types can be easily cleared off by hydrafacial. Such as blackheads and whiteheads. The hydra suction clears off the pores while exfoliating the top layer of your skin and leaves you with a clean and refreshed look.

hydrafacial or chemical peel

On the other hand, some acne formations such as nodules, cannot be treated with Hydrafacial. These acne types are formed on the middle layer of the skin and usually don’t open to the surface with the pores. Hence, Hydrafacial cannot reach them.

Some chemical peels are great at clearing skin and stripping off. And they can be used to treat many acne formations. However many of them would be insufficient to clear some forms of acne as well; such as nodules and cysts.

If you are unsure of which skin treatment is the most suitable for your acne condition, you can further read our guide.

how long does hydrafacial vs chemical peel last

The glowing and hydrating effects of Hydrafacial usually last 5-7 days and depending on your skin type; often longer. We usually recommend the repeat treatment in every 4-6 weeks to give your skin a deep cleansing and glow. However, this depends on your skin type, condition and lifestyle.

With chemical peels, the results depend on the type of the peel. The peeling time and the optimum results usually depend on the strength of the chemical peel.

  • Superficial peels; It is usually little to no downtime. You can repeat the treatment every 4-6 weeks.
  • Medium peels; may take a few days to fully peel and they are usually recommended to have in every 6 months.
  • Deep peels; on the other hand, may take 1-2 weeks to peel completely. But depending on your skin condition, the repeat of the treatment is not usually necessary.

hydrafacial or chemical peel

how much hydrafacial vs chemical peel cost

The price of Hydrafacial treatment depends on the steps and what it includes. At some London clinics, you can have Hydrafacial treatments for cheaper but they will be the shorter treatments which don’t include all steps. At Premier Laser and Skin clinics we offer 6 steps HydraFacial which is the optimum HydraFacial treatment with prices starting from 126. We also have special offers on skincare treatments you can benefit from.

Prices of chemical peels depending on the treatment. They differ from 80 to 950.

Combining skin treatments

Every skin has different needs and a different threshold. Hence there is no one size fits all approach when it comes to skincare. Your skin can benefit from combining different skin care treatments. But you should always speak to a skin professional before taking any steps.

Face Masks & your Skin – 7 Skincare Tips to Prevent Acne, Irritations & Rashes

Even the most visionary fashion designers couldn’t have predicted this seasons must-have accessories…..

Face masks !…

…and a full range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

skincare protective mask

Face masks must now be worn on public transport and encouraged to be worn in public places and shops.

For now PPE is here to stay.

Wearing it however can pose problems for skin including acne, rashes and irritations.  On top of this our skin has been fighting the ill effects of the lockdown including –

It is now more important then ever to be:

Face masks and skincare

Wearing face masks for long periods of time can…

…prevent your skin breathing and causes an increase in surface bacteria and fabric rubbing against your skin can lead to friction and irritation. All this may promotes acne formation, flareups and rashes.

A new word has suddenly popped up to describe this phenomena. Maskne!.

maskne effects

‘Maskne’

People are noticing that wearing masks has made their acne and skin worse. (Maskne, invented by combining mask and acne, is now being used to describe this phenomenon).

This is because our skin sweats out dirt and bacteria plus the skins natural oils and makeup combine to build up under the fabric of the mask.

We also exhale millions of bacteria each time we breath out. As there is no air circulation behind the mask dirty air gets stuck behind it. The skin under your mask can get ‘sweaty’ and damp from the moisture in your breath and makes you susceptible to acne breakouts and irritation.

This can also lead to rashes especially in areas where the mask directly comes in contact with your skin.

Preventing ‘Maskne’, Irritations, Rashes & Breakouts

The questions skin experts and dermatologists are now asking is…

How can we eliminate the side effects of wearing personal protection so long periods of time?

Our skin experts have prepared you a handy guide with 7 tips to help fight back against ‘maskne’. After reading our 7 tips you will know the best way to keep your skin as healthy as possible while wearing PPE.

1 – Use the right type of protective mask for your skin health

Masks are here to stay for now. So choosing the right type is important.

  • If you are using a reusable mask make sure to choose the right type of fabric which is breathable and kind on your skin. Not synthetic.
  • Bear in mind that breathable fabrics can filter air in. Our experts recommend you to layer tightly woven cotton to maximise protection.
  • Choosing natural fabrics like cotton and washable silk will help you protect your skin health too while you are protecting your health.
  • If you prefer single-use mask, make sure to choose cotton-based ones.

skincare protective mask

2 – Clean mask, clean skin

  • After using your mask, the air from your breathing and bacteria stays in the fabric.
  • Buying spare masks will let you rotate and wash one while you are using the other so never have to wear a dirty mask. This will help you keep your skin away from bacteria.
  • While washing your fabric mask, always use a gentle fragrance and enzyme-free detergent. If your skin still gets irritated from the detergent, you can wash your face masks without any soap, but make sure to wash your mask with boiling water so it gets cleared from bacteria.
  • If you invest in single-use masks, make sure to use a fresh one every day you need to leave home.
  • If you are running low on your single-use masks and you need to reuse one temporarily, air your mask for 2 days before you use it again. But try to use this as the last solution.

3 – Follow a strict skincare regimen

We always recommend investing in your skincare. The investment you make in your skin always comes back with great rewards.

  • If your skin is prone to acne and breakouts, the constant use of masks will increase the risk. You might want to take extra care and spend more time on your skincare routine.
  • Double cleansing your skin before bed each day will help to remove the unwanted bacteria from your skin.
  • For a good deep cleansing, you can look into Hydrafacial treatment. Hydrafacial for your acne caused by wearing mask will clear up your skin from the dirt, bacteria and breakouts.
  • Also, if your budget allows try not to go for cheap skincare products. Always try and choose the best quality. However, price is not always an indicator of quality.

If you are you in doubt about which skincare products and routine to follow our skin experts offer free skin consultations and skin advice. You can book your appointment online.

4 – Only use the mask when you need to

You currently must wear masks on public transport. And it is advisory elsewhere. Where it is safe to do so, try and take your mask off for your skin to breath.

  • While you are not wearing your mask keep it we ventilated so it can dry off and won’t let the bacteria to live.
  • If you don’t have anything to leave it securely to, you can wear it under your chin. Turn it inside out so the side you are breathing in to can get refreshed.
  • Don’t leave your mask in closed or dirty areas between the times you are using it.
  • Always disinfect your hands before you put your mask on.

5 – Use anti-oxidants in your skincare & salicylic acid for breakouts

It is good to get as much support as possible from your skincare!.

  • To get rid of the bacteria on your skin caused by your mask try adding anti-oxidants to your skincare regimen.
  • We highly recommend using Vitamin C as a powerful antioxidant that will help to clear up your skin. It will also repair and damage skin cells from wearing the mask.
  • If you are experiencing breakouts try adding salicylic acid to your skin routine. Choose a cleanser with salicylic acid as this is a gentler way to add the ingredient to your skin and it can be washed off. Salicylic acid deeply cleans pores reducing sebum and excess oils.

6 – Give your makeup time off

If you usually wear makeup, try giving you skin a rest. After all if you face is covered up you probably don’t need as much anyway!. Makeup can cause further blockages of oil glands and pores which can make breakouts worse.

7  – Reduce rubbing with a barrier cream

Keep an eye on your skin since after wearing your mask.

For breakouts focus on treating the spots and cleansers for the acne

For rashes or dry skin use healing and soothing products.

If you are prone to irritation use a thicker barrier cream then normal before putting your mask on to reduce the rubbing effects. Look out for balms or oils which clam the skin instead of powerful actives.

Pros and Cons of Hifu Facial Treatment

Pros & Cons of HIFU

Hifu facial treatment is a popular choice for those who want to achieve visible results without the downtime, incision, or cost of surgery.

There are many signs of ageing; lines and wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity and rough-textured appearance.

Luckily today we also have many effective and proven anti-ageing treatments.

High-intensity frequency ultrasound

Our skin constantly renews itself. But by the time we age, the renewal slows down and causes the skin ageing. When Hifu creates the controlled cellular damage on tissue, the skin renewal elevates and starts working as if the skin was 10-20 years younger.

Hifu treatment uses ultrasound energy targeting below-the-surface layers of the skin. Ultrasound energy heats the skin tissue rapidly and creates controlled cellular damage. This damage stimulates the cells to produce more collagen and promotes the skin renewal process.

Non-invasive Hifu

Hifu facial treatment is not an invasive treatment. There is no surgery involved.

It is simply waking up the skin to work as it was when you were younger.

Hifu facial treatment is most effective on mild to moderately aged skin. It is seen as and ideal first defence to address ageing signs.

hifu facial treatment pros and cons

Pros of Hifu Facial Treatment

When Hifu is operated, the high-frequency ultrasound is focused on the tissue below the skin’s surface. So there is no damage to the upper layers of the skin.

Hifu is not an invasive treatment. There is no incision, needles or scarring.

There is no downtime. You can get back to your daily life right after your treatment which is a massive appeal to many.

Right after your treatment, you will see some results. But for the maximum results, it usually takes up to 3 months.

Some of our clients choose Hifu because the treatment results get better over time. Plus the added advantage of not having to explain they’ve had any procedures done.

Hifu facial treatment is significantly cheaper than any surgical facelift.

hifu model

If you are looking for subtle changes to your appearance, you may not want to have surgical treatment. Surgery can be very expensive, risky and prone to complications. With Hifu, you can rejuvenate your skin and appearance much easier.

With surgical facelifts, there are always risks of bleeding, infection, blood clots, pain, scarring, and anaesthesia risks.

On the other hand with Hifu you don’t have these risks.

As Hifu facial treatment works by stimulating and promoting the skin’s natural healing process, the results are very natural-looking.

Hifu facial treatment is suitable for all skin types.

It is a very quick and highly tolerable treatment. You will not feel like you are going under a massive procedure.

Hifu facial treatment has many benefits. It contours your face and promotes your skin to fight with ageing. But it also renews the skin texture. The skin blemishes, large pores, acne, pimples… As Hifu facial treatment mainly activates your skin’s natural process, it provides an overall renewal as well as anti-ageing.

It naturally wakes up your skin/body to work and produce collagen acting like it was 20 years younger.

hifu facial treatment pros and cons

Cons of Hifu facial treatment

Hifu promotes skin to regenerate rather than filling under the skin surface for a more plump look or getting rid of the extra skin with surgery.

As it is a way to promote the skin’s natural process, the results depend on your skin’s nature and ability to regenerate by itself. Hence results may vary from person to person. With surgery results are more certain.

This doesn’t mean that Hifu will not be effective on your skin. Some people may benefit more from their treatment.

Some people may experience slight swelling and redness right after their treatment. Which will usually disappear quickly. The treatment area may also feel slightly sensitive for a week.

Hifu is most suitable for mild to moderate skin laxity. If you have very saggy skin you might consider other skin treatments.

Hifu facial treatment effects usually continue for around 12 months. After this period you may require repeated treatments to maintain the best results.

Contraindications for Hifu

  • metal implants
  • blood disorders
  • silicone injections

Summary and next steps

laser hair removal

How does laser work?

Lasers used in clinics are far more powerful then the home laser devices you may have seen online costing around a hundred pounds.

The laser emits a beam of light which passes through the top layers of the skin and targets and destroys the hair follicle. The laser light is absorbed by the pigment or colour in the shaft of the hair and follicle. The energy from the laser heats and permanently destroys the stem holding the hair.  This loosens the hair which will eventually fall out. New hair cells are also prevented from forming.

laser hair removal

What is the best laser?

Without baffling you with laser science, Laser for laser hair removal can be divided into 5 types. It would be nice if there was one laser that worked for everyone, Sadly this is not the case. A lot of clinic websites mentions different brand names all claiming to be the best, this  causes even more confusion!.

Here are the main things to takeaway.

IPL is not considered a laser, more a flashlight which does not penetrate deep into the skin. It shines light over a wide area affecting the surrounding skin. It should not be used if you have darker skin as it can affect your skin’s pigmentation. Also, hair removal takes longer as it is less effective.

  • ND: YAG LASER

Best for dark skin.

The Nd: YAG Laser is preferred for hair removal for dark skin. It is safer and its long wavelengths (1064nm) go deeper into the skin.

Popular brands: Candela Gentlemax Pro, Cutera CoolGlide, Cynosure Elite

  • ALEXANDRITE LASER

Best for olive skin.

Operates on the wavelength of 755nm although not as long as the Nd:YAG is suitable on a wide range of skin tones. Also has a larger spot size and repetition rate so is one of the quickest treatments available.

Popular brands: Candela Gentlemax Pro, EpiTouch Plus, Cynosure Apogee

  • DIODE LASER

Best for fair and medium-dark skin

The Diode operates on the 800nm wavelength and is designed for fair to medium-dark skin types. It is still fairly new so there is not proven like Alexandrite and ND:YAG.

Popular brands: SLP 1000, LaserLite,  LightSheer, ALma SopranoXL (also known as SHR, or Super Hair Removal)

  • RUBY LASER

Best for very fair skin

This is the oldest type of hair-removal laser. It operates on the 694nm wavelength so is suitable or very light skin and light hair removal.

Common brand names: Palomar E2000, RubyStar

Wavelengths tell you how deep it goes into the skin. The higher the number the deeper It goes. Nd: YAG has the highest number (1064nm) so it goes the deepest. This is important if you have dark skin as you want the laser to go deeper so it doesn’t change your skin colour on top by not going deep enough.

laser hair removal

DOES IT HURT?

Compared to other forms of hair removal like waxing or epilation most people would say laser hair removal is uncomfortable and not painful.

People experience pain differently and some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. Some people won’t notice a thing, others will feel a warming of the area. When asked to compare it something people have often compared it to being flicked with an elastic band.

After your session, the treated area is quite sensitive and can appear red for a few hours afterwards

laser hair removal

Does laser hair removal get less painful after each treatment?

Like most things, you should get used to the laser hair removal sensation and tolerate it better the more sessions you have. If the pain is more unbearable your practitioner can apply numbing cream over the treated area.

This will be applied and you have to wait up to 30 minutes for it to take effect. If you are on your period you this can make your skin more sensitive to the laser so it may hurt more during this time.

laser hair removal

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO i NEED BEFORE my HAIR DOESN’T GROW BACK AT ALL?

Laser hair removal works best when a course of treatments are performed at regular intervals. This should give you the best results. Most clinics recommend a course of treatments.

This is commonly between 6-8 sessions. Depending on how well you respond to the laser this may be more than enough or you may need to extra top up sessions to get the results you are after.

laser hair removal

Can I have a sauna after laser hair removal or exercise?

As the laser transfers a lot of heat energy into skin you should avoid anything that heats up the skin further like saunas and exercise for at least 48 hours following your laser session. This will allow your skin to continue with the healing process without interruption.

laser hair removal

Will six sessions of laser hair removal be enough?

Depending on how well you respond to the laser treatment and the area treated, will determine how many sessions you will need.

We have treated oriental clients who experience amazing results after just 4 sessions. Other clients with darker skin tones and thick coarser hair will probably need more than 6 sessions sometimes over 10. Hormones also play a part which differs from person to person.

laser hair removal

Sun exposure after laser hair removal?

You should cover up the area as much as possible to avoid sun exposure after your laser hair treatment. This is easier if you have had bikini line laser, but harder if your arms or face have been lasered.

The first 48 hours after laser treatment are important to protect your skin and avoid sunlight. Use a high factor sun cream with an SPF of 30+ and cover up. In the weeks following your treatment, continue to wear SPF and protect your skin by covering up as much as possible.

laser hair removal

WHERE CAN YOU HAVE LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

Laser hair removal can be performed on the following areas:

  • Face including ears, nose
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Underarms
  • Back
  • Legs
  • Pubic Area
  • Stomach
  • Bikini line/Brazilian
  • Buttocks and Perianal
  • Hands

laser hair removal

WHERE CAN YOU NOT HAVE LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

We receive a lot of requests to perform laser on eyebrows which cannot be done due to the dangers and risk involved of using lasers so close to the eyes.

laser hair removal

CAN I HAVE LASER OVER MY TATTOO?

No. you can have laser around the tattoo but not over it. The laser will be attracted to the colour pigment in the ink causing pigmentation issue to the skin. An experienced technician can skilfully go around your tattoo.

If you are thinking about getting a tattoo and want to be hair free, get laser hair removal done first.

laser hair removal

HOW LONG DO YOU WAIT BETWEEN SESSIONS?

Your sessions are usually spaced about 6 weeks apart. This is so your sessions are timed with your hair growth cycle that takes about 6 weeks

That is why you will be advised not to wax or epilate in between session as it will cause disruption to your hair growth cycle.

Shaving is fine as it cuts the hair above the epidermis or top layer whereas waxing and epilating remove hair from below.

laser hair removal

What if I miss a session what should I do?

It’s normal that life will get in the way sometimes. For best results you should try and stick to your appointments as consistency is the key to great results. As mentioned, if you are away and miss an appointment shaving is the only method you should consider. Shaving will cause the least impact on your treatment than the other methods of hair removal.

laser hair removal

HOW LONG laser hair removal LAST?

Results will vary from person to person. Hormonal changes can affect your hair growth too. You can experience up to 90% permanent hair reduction after you have completed all your treatments.

The occasional top up session may be required yearly. For most, the results have a huge impact on their lives.

laser hair removal

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

With most laser hair clinics pricing is structured to encourage you to buy packages. Clinics offering pay as you go prices will not give you the best results, unless you have previously completed laser and are buying a single pay as you go top up.

This is because laser hair removal requires consistency. Randomly buying pay as you go treatments is a bad idea. For the laser to work you need multiple sessions spread evenly apart. Laser won’t work without consistency.

Full body laser hair removal costs anywhere between £2000-£3500. Premier Laser price match so have some of the lowest prices in the industry. Expect to pay £3500 on Harley Street.

With finance options starting from £280 your monthly repayments can be as low as £22.

For an accurate quote please contact us for a consultation – don’t forget the mention our price matching if you are shopping around.

laser hair removal

ON AVERAGE, HOW MANY SESSIONS DO YOU NEED FOR THE BIKINI AREA or UNDERARMS?

These smaller areas respond well to laser hair removal. For best results, we recommend purchasing a package of  8 sessions.

laser hair removal

I HAVE VERY FINE extremely BLONDE HAIRS – WILL LASER WORK FOR ME?

Best results are usually experienced by people with darker hairs such as brown and black. Very light blonde hair does not contain enough pigment for the laser to work.

laser hair removal

Does laser work on red or ginger or grey hair?

The laser will not work on grey hair as it requires pigment. Although lasers have advanced recently making it possible to treat red and ginger hair for the majority of red and ginger haired people it is unlikely laser will work on you.

laser hair removal

IS LASER SUITABLE WITH PCOS?

If you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and want to have laser removal treatment you can achieve fantastic results with laser hair removal. Results are not guaranteed though as PCOS affects the body’s hair growth so continuous laser session may be required to stay on top of the hair growth.

It is important to do your research and have realistic expectations if you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome so you are not disappointed with the outcomes. Be careful of any clinics over-promising on results. Look for a clinic that will work with you, you feel comfortable with and will set up a treatment plan where you work and communicate closely together to achieve your goals.

It is not all doom and gloom though. We have seen clients experience life changing results which impacts their self confidence and quality of life with laser hair removal.

If you have PCOS are interested in laser hair removal the next steps would be to book a free consultation and speak to an experienced practitioner.

laser hair removal

IS LASER SUITABLE WHEN BREASTFEEDING?

No, you cannot have laser treatment while breastfeeding.

laser hair removal

IS LASER SUITABLE WHEN PREGNANT?

No, you cannot have laser treatment while pregnant. If you are trying for a baby then it is not advisable to start a course of treatments as the pregnancy will disrupt your treatment and effective your results.

laser hair removal

I AM PHOTOSENSITIVE. IS LASER STILL A GOOD OR SAFE OPTION?

It is difficult to give general advice for specific individuals with medical conditions to follow. So there is not a one size fits all answer. We would recommend you book a free consultation to find out your suitability and options.

How To Prepare For Laser Hair Removal

First time for laser hair removal and not sure how to prepare? That’s totally fine!. By the time you read our blog you will be a laser hair pro!.

If you are tired of shaving, waxing and epilating and fed up of the time consuming, major hassle factor, inconvenience and (not to mention the cost), and you want wear skirts or to go to the beach without having to think about leg hair or your chest hair.

…..whatever your reason for choosing laser hair removal – like millions of others you’ve definitely made the right choice.

Your first time

However, if this is your first time having laser hair removal treatment, you might have some questions.

  • What happens during your laser consultation and patch test?
  • How do you get ready for your laser treatment?
  • What happens during your laser session?
  • What to expect from your laser hair removal session?
  • How to do laser hair removal aftercare.

We’ve answered all these questions for you.

Laser hair removal consultation

Before getting your first ever laser hair removal treatment on any areas of your body, you need to have a full consultation and a patch test.

During your consultation, our laser experts listen to your needs and goals. Ask you questions about your background, medical condition and lifestyle.

laser hair removal

Hair growth explained

The growth and strength of the hair follicles are mainly determined by genetics. Your clinician will explain to you the whole process and will give you an estimated number of sessions you would need to attend. They will explain the hair growth cycles, how laser works, the technology, overall process, pricing and payment options, most suitable time for you to start your treatment and why you are in the most capable hands at Premier Laser & Skin.

What is a laser hair removal patch test?

If your consultation determines that you are a suitable candidate for laser hair removal, and if you’re not currently tanned, your clinician will perform a patch test. Patch tests must take place at least 24hrs before your first session. We apply the laser to a small part of the target area and monitor.

Do I still need a patch test if I’ve had one before?

Please note that even if you had laser hair removal on some other areas of your body, for each and every new area, we need to perform a new patch test.

This is because your skin may be more sensitive in some areas, and to prevent any possible side effects. Also, even if you had laser treatment somewhere else before, we still need to make a patch test, as the technology, circumstances, and your condition might be changed since then. If your skin is suitable for laser treatment, we will create your personal treatment plan and book you in for your first laser appointment.

How to get ready for your laser treatment

For the best results and most comfortable treatment, it is important to follow your practitioners advice. This way you can get ready for your laser treatment in the best way possible.

Your practitioner will advise you to:

  • Avoid any tanning. Suntan, fake tan and sunbeds are equally dangerous if you allow your skin to tan before your laser treatment or apply a fake tan. If your skin is tanned, the laser can burn the surface. If all traces of your fake tan are not removed this also can put you at risk.
  • Leave at least 4 weeks before getting you laser treatment if your skin is tanned.
  • Avoid waxing or plucking before laser hair removal. As these options change the hair growth cycle, the laser will not be able to catch the hair follicles on the right stage and it will not be able to reduce the hair.
  • Do not bleach your hair. The darker the hair follicles, it is easier for the laser to see them
  • Clean the treatment area before your session. Don’t use any cosmetic creams before your session. You can ask for sanitary towels from your practitioner at the beginning of your session to clean the area as well.
  •  Make sure that you have between 4-6 weeks full hair growth before your first session.
  • Shave 24 hours before your laser appointment. NOT on the treatment day. To read more about how to shave correctly, you can visit our blog
  • Choose a non-perfumed shaving/ cleansing product for your bikini area. Otherwise, it might cause irritations.
  • Use a pH-balanced feminine cleanser wash afterwards to make sure all the shaving foam has been removed. For more tips on how to shave click here
  • Gently exfoliate your bikini area 3-4 days before your session. Don’t leave it to the last day or after you shaved. Otherwise, it might irritate your skin.
  • Make sure all the excess hair from the labia and perianal area has been removed
  • Wear loose clothes for your treatment. Make sure your underwear is not too tight.
  • Prefer cotton underwear
  • Avoid caffeine. It can increase your sensitivity.
  • If you have a low pain threshold, you can take a mild pain reliever before your session (not Ibuprofen)
  • Some of our clients find chewing gum during the treatment helpful
  • Try to schedule the treatment the week before of the week after your period
  • Most importantly, relax, you’re in safe hands.

Treatment day arrives!

On the day of your treatment, it is important that you are at the clinic on time so your session can be completed on time.

Your clinician will welcome you to the treatment room. Here you will have full privacy whilst getting ready for your session.

Undressing

You will need to undress the parts that you are having the laser treatment at. Your clinician will provide you with towels to you can cover yourself where and when necessary.

If you are having laser treatment on more than one area, or the full-body, you might prefer to get undress partially for each area for more comfort.

Your clinician will check if the growth of hair is suitable for the treatment. And then clean the treatment area.

Markings with a white pen

They will mark the area with a white pen to make sure no parts are missed. Cover up the spots and beauty marks to prevent any negative effects. And if you have any tattoos, they will cover the sides so the laser doesn’t get over it.

Numbing cream, if required

Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. Before your treatment, you will also be offered numbing cream. But even if you don’t want to use it, you will still be fine. As our laser experts have many years of experience and they know how to make you feel most comfortable.

Goggles

Before starting the treatment, you will be asked to wear special goggles to protect your eyes. You can also lie back and close your eyes if you prefer. It is important that you never look at the laser with the naked eye as it is highly dangerous.

Making sure you are comfortable

Your clinician may stop or pause during your treatment to make sure you are comfortable. They can use the cold air function of the laser to give your skin the extra soothing help before and after treating the area. If you have sensitive skin, they make sure to treat the area in small patches to make the treatment go easier.

They regularly clean the area with a sanitised napkin in every couple of minutes.

Correct settings

Your clinician may change the settings of the machine during your treatment. This is to adapt the best power and consistency to the area treated. Your expert will make sure to treat the area with the most appropriate and necessary settings. Which can differ from area to area due to the number of sessions completed, amount of hair follicles or the sensitivity of the skin.

Your feedback is important

Your clinician may also need your help in some areas. They might ask you to stay in a specific position or help them out whilst treating some areas for example during the perianal.

You can always ask all your questions to your clinicians during the treatment. They will make sure you are as comfortable and ready as possible.

Respecting your privacy

While having your laser treatment, your clinician will always respect your privacy. Even when you are having laser treatment on your bikini area, you will always be covered with towels. And your practitioner will only uncover the areas that are being treated at the time.

Immediately after and aloe vera gel

After your treatment, they will apply aloe Vera gel to the treated areas. Or if you prefer to apply yourself they will provide you with the gel.

They will ask how you are feeling and how was your session. Will always make sure you were pleased with your session and you don’t have any discomfort afterwards. And will give you your privacy to get clothed on.

prepare for laser

Monitoring progress

Your clinician will also take photos of the treatment areas to follow and record the process. Don’t worry these images are for treatment purposes only and they won’t be published or shared anywhere without your consent.

After recording your treatment details, they will assist you in the reception area to book your next appointment. And advice on the aftercare.

prepare for laser

How does laser feel

The sensations of the laser vary from person to person and the treatment area. While some experience a slight sting, some people don’t even feel the laser unless they hear its beeping sound.

Different factors affect how the laser would feel on the sensitive skin. Such as hair colour, density, skin type and pain threshold. But you can make sure that the feeling of laser decreases after each treatment as the hair follicles get finer and lighter, and your body is getting used to the feeling over time.

Laser cooling technology

To minimise the sensation, our lasers work with a built-in cooling system. This is to reduce the possible pain from the laser. Some clients may feel cold during the treatment. In that case, please let your practitioner know and they will take small breaks to make you feel more comfortable.

Laser hair removal aftercare

Laser only targets the hair follicle and leaves the surrounding skin unharmed. But there are still some rules you would need to follow to not to harm your skin and to keep your comfort levels to the maximum.

Right after your session, your clinician will apply to the treatment area some Aloe Vera gel.

after laser

First 24 hours

It is recommended you to keep using the gel for the following 2-3 days. Make sure to use it as much as necessary.

After your session, you might experience some redness. It should go away within 24 hours to a few days.

For comfort purposes, you can put an icepack covered with a clean cloth on your skin.

  • Avoid sunlight – even if it is not very likely to do anyway.
  • Prevent the use of any lubricants or chemical products for 24 hours.
  • Avoid hot showers, baths and saunas.

It usually takes 4-6 weeks for the hair follicles to get back to the appropriate stage for your next laser treatment. Tell your clinician with any holidays you are planning to attend, any sun exposure you had or may have, and your period where it is relevant. At Premier Laser & Skin clinics we use the latest medical degree lasers for the best results and the highest comfort. All our clinicians are highly experienced in the field. So, you can be sure that you are in safe hands.
